What is the Leadership for Africa Scholarship Programme?

The Leadership for Africa programme offers full scholarships for Master’s degree studies in Germany, covering a wide range of disciplines. However, the programme does not support degrees in Medicine, Veterinary Medicine, Dentistry, Law, Fine Arts and Architecture, or health care-related fields such as Nursing and Midwifery.

The programme targets two key groups:

  1. Refugees: Highly qualified refugees who have been granted refugee status in their host countries (South Sudan or Uganda) and meet the qualifications for Master’s studies in Germany.
  2. National Scholars: Highly qualified graduates from South Sudan or Uganda who meet the qualifications for Master’s studies in Germany.

Who Can Apply?

1) Refugees from South Sudan and Uganda

To apply as a refugee, you must:

  • Hold refugee status in South Sudan or Uganda, granted before April 2, 2024. This status must remain valid at least until April 2026.
  • Have a completed Bachelor’s degree at the time of application.

2) Graduates from South Sudan and Uganda

For applicants from South Sudan or Uganda, the eligibility criteria are:

  • Citizenship of South Sudan or Uganda.
  • Reside in South Sudan or Uganda.
  • Hold a completed Bachelor’s degree at the time of application.

Please note:

  • Applicants with a degree in Medicine may apply for Master’s programmes related to Public Health or Biomedical Sciences only. A Master’s in Medicine is not eligible for funding.
  • For applicants pursuing studies in artistic disciplines or architecture, DAAD offers separate subject-specific scholarship programmes.
