About the Role

One Acre Fund manages one of Africa’s largest agroforestry programs, serving more than 2 million farmers through a network of 2,500+ local nurseries. As Agroforestry Manager, you will help address three pressing issues facing smallholder farmers: extreme poverty, climate change, and biodiversity loss.

Your work will focus on enhancing and scaling agroforestry and Forest Landscape Restoration (FLR) programs. You will oversee programs that annually produce over 70 million seedlings and strengthen our network of nurseries. This role presents an opportunity to improve existing strategies, test innovative approaches, and generate lasting change for farmers and the environment.

You will lead and support a team of international and country-based agroforestry experts and report to the Agroforestry Director.

Key Responsibilities

  • Operational Support: Guide agroforestry program leads in 10 countries to achieve key targets, including seedling production, adoption, survival, and species diversification. Your leadership will help achieve One Acre Fund’s ambitious goal of planting one billion trees by 2030. This may involve providing direct support to smaller program teams.
  • Performance Tracking: Develop and manage systems that track the performance of agroforestry initiatives, including ecosystem service indicators, impact assessments, and scale. Ensure program leads are equipped with data and insights to improve outcomes.
  • Team Building and Knowledge Sharing: Foster a collaborative and high-performing agroforestry team. Facilitate cross-team learning and build a strong culture of shared knowledge and innovation.
  • Program Innovation: Identify, scope, and pilot new solutions to improve program effectiveness. This could involve developing strategies to enhance seedling survival rates, introducing new technologies to support programming, or solving challenges related to seedling supply.
  • External Partnerships and Communication: Cultivate relationships with external stakeholders, including partners, donors, and governments. Present program results and plans using data, visuals, and compelling narratives to drive collaboration and support.

Career Growth and Development
At One Acre Fund, we are committed to the continuous development of our staff. You will have regular check-ins with your manager, mentorship opportunities, and access to training programs. Career reviews every six months provide a platform to discuss your aspirations and growth. This is an opportunity to shape the future of a growing organization and build a long-term, rewarding career.

  • Educational Background: A university or advanced degree in agroforestry, ecology, environmental science, or a related field.
  • Expertise in Nature-Based Solutions: Familiarity with nature-based carbon projects, including their implementation and certification, is an advantage.
