Eligibility Criteria:
To apply for the Commonwealth Distance Learning Master’s Scholarship 2025, candidates must meet the following criteria:
- Citizenship: You must be a citizen of or hold refugee status in an eligible Commonwealth country or be a British Protected Person.
- Residency: You should be permanently residing in a developing Commonwealth country.
- Academic Qualifications: You must hold a first degree with at least an upper second class (2:1) standard. In some cases, a lower qualification may be considered if you have significant relevant professional experience.
- Financial Need: You must demonstrate that you are unable to afford the costs of studying the MSc in Disability Studies, Rights, and Inclusion without this scholarship.
Application Process
The application process for the Commonwealth Distance Learning Master’s Scholarships is a two-stage process:
- Stage 1: Apply for the MSc in Disability Studies, Rights and Inclusion
- You must first apply for the MSc in Disability Studies, Rights and Inclusion at the University of Leeds and receive a Student Application Number.
- Applications without a valid Student Application Number will be rejected, so it is crucial to apply to the program first before proceeding to the scholarship application.
- Stage 2: Complete the Commonwealth Scholarships Application
- Once you have your Student Application Number, complete the online scholarship application on the Commonwealth Scholarships Commission website.
- Ensure all the required information is submitted before the deadline.

- Deadline: 16:00 GMT, Tuesday 20th May 2025
How the Scholarships Are Awarded:
- The School of Sociology and Social Policy at the University of Leeds will review and shortlist applicants based on the submitted applications.
- The shortlisted applicants will then be recommended to the Commonwealth Scholarship Commission for final approval.
- You can expect to be notified about the outcome of your application in August 2025.
- The University will publish the names of successful applicants within the University and may use application data for internal selection and statistical purposes.
Number of Scholarships Available:
- A total of 5 scholarships will be awarded in 2025.
