The future of urban environments lies in the careful application of artificial intelligence (AI) to build smarter, more sustainable cities. As the world rapidly evolves, technologies that optimise efficiency, precision, and sustainability are critical in transforming the construction and urban development industries.
The integration of AI holds immense potential in improving energy efficiency, reducing waste, designing eco-friendly structures, and fortifying urban infrastructure against the impacts of climate change. However, to ensure these advancements benefit both people and the planet, AI must be deployed responsibly and in a way that mitigates societal risks.
Holcim, a global leader in sustainable building solutions, is committed to leveraging innovation to shape the future of construction. Recognising the importance of responsible AI development, Holcim has partnered with One Young World once again to offer the Holcim Scholarship 2025.
This year, the focus is on expanding the dialogue around AI’s role in enhancing sustainability and resilience in urban environments.
The scholarship aims to empower a group of five young leaders who are actively making an impact in the following areas:
- Deploying AI technologies for sustainable construction: Enhancing operational efficiency, material selection, waste management, environmentally-friendly building designs, or energy-efficient solutions.
- Employing AI solutions for urban resilience: Supporting disaster prediction and management, traffic systems, infrastructure maintenance, or climate adaptation planning.
- Ensuring responsible AI deployment: Developing regulatory frameworks, engaging communities, raising awareness, and fostering interdisciplinary collaborations to ensure AI is used ethically and responsibly.
Building Tomorrow Scholarship Benefits
As a recipient of the Holcim Scholarship, you will receive:
- Full access to the One Young World Summit 2025 in Munich, Germany, held from 3 – 6 November 2025.
- Accommodation in Munich from 2 – 6 November (inclusive).
- Round-trip travel to and from Munich (economy class).
- All meals covered, including breakfast, lunch, and dinner on conference days.
- Ground transport between Summit accommodation and the venue, as required.
- Pre-programme in Munich before the Summit.
Eligibility Criteria
To be eligible for the Holcim Scholarship 2025, candidates must meet the following criteria:
- Be aged 18 – 30 years old.
- Be actively making a positive impact in one of the scholarship’s three focus areas:
- Deploying AI technologies for sustainable construction.
- Employing AI solutions for urban resilience.
- Ensuring the responsible deployment of AI in urban development.
