1. Senior Policy Manager – Health
Lead the Scaling Access to Safe Water in Africa (SASWA) Initiative
Are you an experienced health policy expert ready to make an impact across Africa? The Senior Policy Manager – Health will take charge of J-PAL Africa’s Scaling Access to Safe Water in Africa (SASWA) initiative. This role involves leading efforts to improve public health outcomes by embedding chlorine voucher programs into maternal and child health systems across 13+ countries.
Key Responsibilities:
- Program Leadership: Lead the scaling and implementation of chlorine voucher programs across multiple African nations, improving access to safe water for maternal and child health.
- Stakeholder Engagement: Work closely with government agencies, local authorities, and other partners to integrate water safety programs into national health systems.
- Research Translation: Use evidence-based approaches to inform program design, adaptation, and scaling strategies.
- Policy Advocacy: Advocate for the inclusion of chlorine voucher systems in national health policies, ensuring sustainable and impactful integration into public health frameworks.
- Monitoring & Evaluation: Oversee the monitoring and evaluation of ongoing programs to ensure they are delivering measurable improvements in water safety, health, and well-being.
Qualifications:
- Advanced degree in Public Health, Policy, or related fields.
- Proven experience in health policy management and program scaling in Africa.
- Strong knowledge of maternal and child health systems in the African context.
- Experience working with governments and large-scale health programs.
- A track record of driving programmatic changes in low-resource settings.
- Excellent project management and stakeholder coordination skills.

Shape the Future of Small and Medium Enterprises (SMEs) Growth in Africa
Small and Medium Enterprises (SMEs) are critical to job creation and economic development across Africa. As the Policy Manager – Firms, you will have the unique opportunity to shape J-PAL Africa’s research and policy agenda on SME growth. This role involves developing partnerships and conducting research to identify effective strategies that can support job creation and economic opportunities for SMEs across the continent.
Key Responsibilities:
- Research Leadership: Lead the design and implementation of research projects that assess the impact of policies on SME growth and job creation in Africa.
- Policy Advocacy: Develop policy recommendations based on research findings and work with governments, international organizations, and private sector partners to influence policy change in favor of SMEs.
- Partnership Building: Build and maintain partnerships with key stakeholders, including government entities, development organizations, and business leaders to support the growth and sustainability of SMEs.
- Capacity Building: Contribute to the development of evidence-based tools, frameworks, and reports to support SME policy development and implementation.
- Monitoring & Evaluation: Oversee the evaluation of policies and initiatives aimed at enhancing the SME sector, ensuring they deliver measurable results in terms of job creation and economic growth.
Qualifications:
- Master’s degree in Economics, Business, Public Policy, or a related field.
- Extensive experience in research, policy analysis, or program management related to SMEs or economic development.
- In-depth understanding of the challenges and opportunities for SMEs in Africa.
- Proven track record of engaging with policymakers, development organizations, and the private sector to drive policy change.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to translate research findings into actionable policy recommendations.
- Excellent communication, negotiation, and relationship-building skills.
