Please note that the scholarship does not cover travel, living expenses, or other maintenance costs. Applicants must demonstrate they have or will secure adequate funding for these costs through personal savings, sponsorship, or other financial sources.

Who Can Apply?

This scholarship is open to students who meet the following eligibility requirements:

  • Must be permanently domiciled in Africa – Must already hold an offer (conditional or unconditional) of admission to a postgraduate taught course at Loughborough University
  • Must demonstrate outstanding academic achievement, typically a first-class honours degree or its equivalent
  • Must show strong commitment to returning to Africa after completing their studies to make a meaningful contribution to their home country
  • Must display a clear understanding of the financial demands of studying in the UK
  • Must provide evidence of securing or planning to secure funds for travel and maintenance costs
  • Must demonstrate motivation, initiative, and leadership potential

Application Process

The scholarship application process is competitive and selective. Interested applicants must first apply for and receive an offer to study a master’s degree at Loughborough University. Only then can they access and submit the scholarship application form.

Step-by-step Guide:

1. Apply for a Master’s Programme: Submit your application to any eligible postgraduate taught course at Loughborough University.

2. Receive Your Offer: Wait until you have received an official offer (this may be conditional or unconditional).

3. Download and Complete the Scholarship Application Form: Once you have your offer, download the Global Impact Scholarship application form, which also serves as the application for the Loughborough Development Trust Africa Scholarship.

5. Shortlisting and Selection: Applications will be initially reviewed and shortlisted. Final decisions are made by a panel of senior university staff.

4. Submit Your Application Before the Deadline: Ensure your application is well written, clearly presented, and submitted by 30 April 2025. Late submissions will not be accepted.

6. Outcome Notification: All applicants will be notified of the outcome via email. Shortlisted candidates will be given further instructions regarding the next steps, including potentially providing a deposit towards living expenses as part of the scholarship conditions.

  • Applications must be complete in every section to be considered.
  • A confirmation email will be sent once your application is received.
  • Scholarships will replace any other university scholarships or bursaries already awarded.
  • Scholarships are only valid for the academic year 2025/26 and cannot be deferred.
