Study from Anywhere in the World! Commonwealth Distance Learning Scholarships at Loughborough University 2025/2026

Study Water Management or Engineering for Development from Anywhere in the World Loughborough University is proud to announce that it has been awarded Commonwealth Distance Learning Scholarships for the academic year 2025/26.

These prestigious scholarships are funded by the UK government through the Commonwealth Scholarship Commission (CSC) and aim to support students from low- and middle-income Commonwealth countries who would not otherwise be able to study in the UK.These scholarships are specifically available for two of our highly respected distance learning Master’s programmes:

  • MSc in Water Management for Development
  • MSc in Water Engineering for Development

Both programmes are offered through the Water Engineering and Development Centre (WEDC), one of the world’s leading education and research centres for developing knowledge and capacity in water and sanitation for sustainable development and humanitarian contexts.

What Does the Scholarship Cover?

The Commonwealth Distance Learning Scholarship covers 100% of tuition fees for the entire duration of the programme. This means that successful applicants will be able to study without the financial burden of course fees, making quality education accessible to deserving students globally.Note that the scholarship does not cover additional expenses such as computer equipment, internet access, or any travel-related costs, as it is designed for distance learning from the scholar’s home country.

Key Dates and Application Period

The application window for the Commonwealth Distance Learning Scholarships opens on 8th April 2025 and closes on 20th May 2025. All studies funded through this scholarship will begin in September or October 2025, depending on the chosen programme’s start date.

Dual Application Process

To be considered for the scholarship, applicants must complete two separate applications:

1. Apply to the Commonwealth Scholarship Commission (CSC) Applicants must submit their application for the Commonwealth Distance Learning Scholarship via the official Commonwealth Scholarship Commission website. This includes submitting supporting documents such as academic transcripts, references, and a personal statement.

2. Apply to Loughborough University , In parallel, candidates must also apply for admission to their chosen MSc programme at Loughborough University. Applications to the university must meet the same academic and language proficiency requirements as standard applicants.It is important to complete both applications by the deadline to be eligible for the scholarship. Incomplete or late applications will not be considered.

Eligibility Requirements

The Commonwealth Distance Learning Scholarships are intended for individuals who:

  • Are citizens of or have been granted refugee status by an eligible Commonwealth country-
  • Are permanently resident in a developing Commonwealth country
  • Hold a first degree of at least upper second-class (2:1) standard; lower qualifications may be considered with relevant experience
  • Are unable to afford to study a UK degree without the scholarship
  • Are currently employed or have relevant experience in a development-related sector
