Empowering Public Health Advocacy: Nigeria Health Watch Launches Science-Policy Communication Fellowship
Nigeria Health Watch has officially announced the launch of its Science-Policy Communication Fellowship, a transformative program aimed at strengthening the interface between scientific research and policymaking in Nigeria’s public health sector.
This initiative calls on early to mid-career professionals, researchers, academics, and health advocates with a passion for public health to step forward and become effective communicators and change agents in shaping evidence-informed policy.
In a country like Nigeria, where public health challenges are both complex and dynamic, the need for evidence-based policy responses is more urgent than ever. Yet, the disconnect between scientific research and policy implementation remains a significant obstacle to progress.
To address this critical gap, Nigeria Health Watch is introducing a unique, hands-on fellowship that empowers participants to transform scientific evidence into accessible, actionable communication tailored for policy stakeholders.
Fellowship Overview and Objectives
The Science-Policy Communication Fellowship is designed as a three-month hybrid program combining virtual orientation, in-person training sessions, and ongoing mentorship.
Participants will engage with seasoned professionals from public health, media, and policy sectors, gaining the tools to effectively translate technical data into compelling, policy-relevant narratives.
The primary goals of the fellowship are to:
- Deepen participants’ understanding of how public health science intersects with policy development and decision-making.
- Build their capacity to distill complex research findings into concise, persuasive recommendations for non-technical audiences, particularly policymakers.
- Cultivate a growing network of skilled communicators across Nigeria who champion evidence-based advocacy and policymaking.
This initiative is part of Nigeria Health Watch’s broader mission to build a resilient and informed health policy environment, where research and evidence actively shape strategies for addressing public health priorities.

The fellowship is open to individuals who are passionate about using their knowledge and expertise to drive change. It is especially well-suited to:

- Health advocates and practitioners involved in public health campaigns, health journalism, or community-focused communication initiatives.Whether candidates are looking to build their influence in public discourse or expand their capacity to advocate for science-informed solutions, the fellowship offers the tools and mentorship to make their voices heard.
