As the global economy continues its transition toward a sustainable future, the United Nations Global Compact is at the forefront of guiding businesses in aligning with climate science and the goals of the Paris Agreement.
The Climate Ambition Accelerator is a six-month capacity-building initiative designed to empower companies—regardless of their size or sector—with the knowledge and tools needed to set and reach science-based emissions reduction targets.
These targets are aligned with a 1.5℃ pathway and set businesses on the journey to achieving net-zero emissions by 2050.Led by the United Nations Global Compact and delivered through its Country Networks worldwide, the programme combines global insight with local expertise to accelerate credible climate action.
Programme Objectives and Impact
The Climate Ambition Accelerator helps participants:
- Understand and implement **Greenhouse Gas (GHG) emissions management strategies. Learn the fundamentals of the Science Based Targets initiative (SBTi) and the pathway to net-zero.
- Build internal support for climate goals across leadership, employees, and stakeholders.
- Access global best practices, on-demand training, and peer learning opportunities.
- Position their organization to join the Forward Faster initiative through science-based target setting.The programme has already demonstrated significant impact:
- 84% of past participants reported improved understanding of GHG emissions.
- 87% gained clarity on science-based targets.
- Over 350 companies engaged with the SBTi following their participation.
- More than 200 science-based targets were set post-programme.
Who Can Participate?
Participation in the Climate Ambition Accelerator is open to:
- Companies that are current participants of the UN Global Compact or willing to join.
- Organizations engaged with a Global Compact Country Network, or willing to engage.
- Companies committed to setting ambitious emissions reduction targets in line with climate science.
- Businesses prepared to appoint at least two representatives to engage in the programme and designate one executive-level contact for oversight and support.

Programme Structure
The programme experience includes five key phases:
1. Setting the Scene: An introduction to the programme’s structure, tools, and participant cohort. Participants familiarize themselves with the digital learning environment and expectations.
2. GHG Inventory: A technical module focusing on GHG emissions accounting, reporting frameworks, and best practices. Companies take steps toward establishing or refining their GHG inventories.
3. Setting a Science-Based Target: In-depth guidance on how to apply SBTi tools and methodologies, identify internal resources, and engage key stakeholders in developing emissions reduction targets.
4. Emissions Management: Strategic sessions that explore emissions reduction methods, scenario planning, and target-setting aligned with the 1.5℃ pathway.
5.Wrap-Up and Pitch: Participants consolidate their learning, share their findings, present organizational action plans, and outline next steps for achieving net-zero goals.
Participation Tracks
Companies can participate through two main delivery tracks:
In-Country Track
Facilitated by local Global Compact Country Networks in participating countries such as Germany, Japan, Canada, Brazil, and many more. Local delivery allows tailored engagement and region-specific content.
Global Track
Open to companies in countries without in-country programmes. Delivered in English, the global track offers the same curriculum via live and on-demand sessions. Live sessions are scheduled at 8:00 a.m. GMT / 5:00 p.m. JST 2025

Applications Open: 19 February 2025 – Application Deadline: 30 April 2025 Programme Begins: May 2025
Programme Ends: November 2025

How to Apply
