PAID Opportunity Alert: Apply Now for the GreenCheck Solidarity Academy 2025 for Young Climate Activists and Changemakers Globally

The GreenCheck Solidarity Academy is a dynamic paid training and internship program aimed at empowering the next generation of climate leaders from the Most Affected Peoples and Areas (MAPA). MAPA refers to marginalized communities that are disproportionately impacted by climate change and environmental degradation, often in ways that are underrepresented in global discussions.

This includes Indigenous peoples, LGBTQ+ communities, neurodivergent individuals, and low-income groups. The Academy is designed to elevate the voices of those from these communities and provide the necessary tools and support to lead impactful climate justice actions.

The GreenCheck Solidarity Academy offers a unique opportunity for a small cohort of interns to join forces with frontline climate justice organizations. By participating in this program, interns will play an active role in scaling high-impact, MAPA-led initiatives, contributing to building transnational and inter-MAPA solidarity.

The program is more than just an internship; it is a chance to make a real difference in the global climate movement, with an emphasis on solidarity over charity and decolonial approaches.

To apply for the GreenCheck Solidarity Academy, applicants must meet the following criteria:

1 Month (June): Training and Upskilling

The first month of the program will focus on upskilling and capacity-building. Interns will participate in workshops, panels, and discussions on key topics related to climate justice and leadership. These sessions will focus on:

  • Decolonial Principles: Understanding the importance of decolonization in climate action and how it shapes the global justice movement.
  • Climate Justice: Exploring what climate justice truly means and how to apply it in local and global contexts.
  • Solidarity Over Charity: Learning how to build solidarity within and between MAPA communities rather than approaching climate action from a charitable, top-down model.

Additionally, interns will receive skills training in various areas, including:

  • Storytelling: How to effectively communicate climate justice narratives that resonate with diverse audiences.
  • Impact Campaign Development: Learn how to create and manage campaigns that drive meaningful change in local and global contexts.
  • Project Management: Gain skills to manage projects and collaborate with stakeholders in the climate sector.

3 Months (July – September): Direct Action & Allyship

In the second phase of the internship, interns will engage in direct action alongside GreenCheck partners and participate in various climate justice initiatives. This phase will provide real-world experience in driving change within grassroots organizations. Interns will:

  • Work alongside GreenCheck Partner organizations to implement high-impact climate justice actions.
  • Contribute to campaigns and advocacy initiatives that support MAPA-led solutions to climate change.
  • Build transnational solidarity by connecting with other MAPA groups and allies from different regions of the world.
  • Participate in virtual events and social hangouts with the GreenCheck team and other interns to strengthen the sense of community and support.

Throughout these months, interns will be exposed to various global perspectives on migration, decolonization, disability justice, and international climate policy through expert-led discussions and workshops.
