Research Assistant Position at CEP
Exciting Research Assistant Opportunity in Economic Performance Research
Rui Costa from the London School of Economics and Nikhil Datta from Warwick University are seeking a research assistant for a Low Pay Commission funded project.
This research explores the differential effects of minimum wage policies on firm adjustment margins, with a focus on how local labour market power influences these effects. This role presents a great opportunity for graduate students who are passionate about economic research, particularly in the fields of labour economics and firm-level analysis.
Key Responsibilities: The research assistant will be involved in cleaning, merging, and analysing firm-level microdata to explore the project’s hypotheses. The typical workload is around twelve hours per week at the start, which will taper off as the project progresses. The role offers an excellent chance to gain hands-on experience in multi-stage applied research.
Position Requirements:
- A background in applied economic research (minimum Masters level in economics or a related discipline) or similar quantitative skills from other fields.
- Familiarity with handling large microdata sets using STATA or R.
- Strong coding skills and ability to work independently under minimal supervision.
- Fluency in English and the ability to communicate research findings effectively.
- Must be an ONS RAS-accredited researcher (or close to becoming one) to access ONS secure servers and datasets.
- Must be available to work on-site in London to access these secure servers.
The position is set to begin in late April or early May 2025 and will last for twelve months, with the possibility of extension. The workload will be approximately seven hours per week, with some flexibility depending on the stage of the project. The hourly pay rate is £23.40, including holiday pay.
