Call for Expression of Interest: Junior Professionals in EU Delegation (JPD) Programme 2025

The Junior Professionals in Delegation (JPD) Programme is a high-level traineeship initiative by the European External Action Service (EEAS) and the European Commission (EC), providing an excellent opportunity for qualified junior professionals from the EU Member States to gain hands-on experience working in EU Delegations around the world.

The call for expression of interest for the eighth round of this programme is open from 1 April 2025 to 30 April 2025.

Key Information:

Objective of the JPD Programme

The JPD Programme aims to provide junior European professionals with an in-depth understanding of EU external policies through practical experience in EU Delegations. Every two years, the EEAS and the EC open the call for applications, with positions available across various functions in the Delegations.

Eligibility Criteria

To be eligible for the JPD Programme, candidates must:

  • Be nationals from an EU Member State.
  • Hold a university degree equivalent to a Master’s degree in a relevant domain.
  • Have an excellent command of English and/or French (knowledge of other languages is a plus).
  • Have no more than 1 year of professional experience with the EEAS, the EC, or another EU institution by the closing date (30 April 2025).
  • No prior professional experience is required, but preference will be given to candidates with up to four years of relevant experience.

Where Are Candidates Posted?

Candidates can be posted in one of the 145 EU Delegations worldwide, working in either:

  • EEAS sections: Political, press, and information functions.
  • EC sections: International partnerships, programme/project management, humanitarian affairs, and more.

How to Apply?

Applications must be submitted exclusively to the authorities designated by each EU Member State, and candidates can only apply to one Member State. The application deadline is 30 April 2025.

Selection Process

  • The pre-selection process is managed by the EU Member States.
  • The final selection will be made by the EEAS and the EC, with the matching process based on candidates’ profiles and preferences.
  • Successful candidates will receive traineeship offers in October 2025, with the traineeship start date set for 16 January 2026.

What Does the Programme Offer?

  • A traineeship agreement for 12 months, with a possibility for renewal.
  • A monthly grant of 2,500 EUR and accommodation contribution of 1,700 EUR.
  • Additional allowances, including a hardship contribution and travel costs.
  • An installation contribution of 2,340 EUR and insurance cost contribution of 1,800 EUR.

  • Deadline for applications to Member States: 30 April 2025
  • Pre-selection submission to EEAS and EC: End of August 2025
  • Selection panels and matching process: September 2025
  • Communication of results to Member States: October 2025
  • Traineeship offers sent to candidates: October 2025
  • Traineeship start date: 16 January 2026
  • Induction Training: Mid-January 2026
