The AfricaNenda Foundation is thrilled to announce the opening of applications for its Program Support Intern position. The selected intern will support AfricaNenda’s Advocacy and Capacity Development team in driving initiatives that aim to accelerate financial inclusion and improve cross-border payments across the continent.

The intern will work closely with AfricaNenda’s team to support research, advocacy, and capacity development efforts related to inclusive instant payments systems that have the potential to benefit millions of financially excluded individuals across Africa.

The AfricaNenda Foundation is an African-led organization dedicated to driving the development of inclusive digital payments systems across the continent. By providing technical assistance for payment system projects and collaborating with key stakeholders—including governments, policymakers, and the private sector—the foundation aims to enhance financial inclusion in Africa. Their work focuses on enabling universal access to financial services by 2030 and facilitating the implementation of continental initiatives such as the African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA) and the African Union Digital Transformation Strategy.

Through their work, they contribute to reducing the financial exclusion of the poorest and most vulnerable populations in Africa, working toward a more inclusive, fair, and sustainable future for all.

Internship Responsibilities

As a Program Support Intern, your primary responsibilities will be to assist the Advocacy and Capacity Development team in carrying out various strategic initiatives related to inclusive digital payments systems. Key tasks include:

1. Research and Analysis:

  • Conduct thorough desk research to support team presentations and reports.
  • Monitor and track industry trends, key advocacy platforms, and relevant moments where AfricaNenda can leverage influence.
  • Assist in the creation of materials such as presentations, reports, and policy briefs that will be used in advocacy and capacity-building initiatives.

2. Amplification Support:

  • Help organize and support the execution of both virtual and in-person amplification platforms, where AfricaNenda showcases its work and supports capacity development.
  • Work with cross-functional teams to ensure seamless coordination of events, discussions, and workshops related to digital payments and financial inclusion.

3. Project Management and Reporting:

  • Support the development and maintenance of project tracking tools to ensure progress on various initiatives.
  • Ensure that project timelines and deliverables are met by assisting in documenting meetings and following up on action items.
  • Provide regular updates and contribute to reports that track the progress of ongoing campaigns and projects.

4. Data Management and Organization:

  • Assist in maintaining and updating stakeholder contact lists for various initiatives, including partners, regulators, and other key actors in the digital financial services ecosystem.
  • Track engagement metrics and document stakeholder interactions to help build stronger relationships with external partners.

5. Annual Campaign Execution:

  • Work with multiple teams within AfricaNenda to assist in executing cross-functional campaigns that promote awareness of inclusive digital payments and the importance of financial inclusion across Africa.

6. Skill Development and Adaptability:

  • The internship will provide you with hands-on experience in various aspects of project management, advocacy, and capacity building. You will also develop flexibility by engaging with diverse tasks across multiple teams and projects.

Required Skills and Qualifications

To be considered for the Program Support Intern position, applicants should meet the following qualifications:

  • Educational Background: A bachelor’s degree in project management, business administration, international relations, social sciences, or a related field.
  • Research and Analytical Skills: Strong ability to conduct research, analyze data, and synthesize information for presentations and reports.
  • Communication Skills: Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English are essential; proficiency in additional languages such as French, Arabic, or Portuguese is an advantage.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite: Strong working knowledge of Word, Excel, and PowerPoint is essential for creating reports, presentations, and data analysis.
  • Organizational Abilities: Demonstrated ability to maintain attention to detail, keep projects on track, and manage multiple tasks simultaneously.
  • Interest in Financial Inclusion: A deep passion for digital payments, financial inclusion, and the role of inclusive instant payment systems in transforming financial access across Africa.
  • Interpersonal Skills: Ability to work well with others, both independently and within a team environment, and build strong relationships with diverse stakeholders.
  • Adaptability: Willingness to take on new challenges, learn quickly, and support various teams within the organization.
  • Project Management Skills: Basic experience or familiarity with project management tools and reporting techniques is preferred.
