About the Role

The Head of Policy and Advocacy will lead the development and execution of WINGS’ policy and advocacy strategy. This role will anticipate emerging trends in philanthropy, provide strategic policy insights, and design initiatives that elevate philanthropy’s role in global policy discussions.

The position will collaborate closely with WINGS’ policy and advocacy team and the broader network to enhance research-driven policy engagement and position WINGS as a leading voice in the sector.

This role requires expertise in policy analysis, stakeholder engagement, and global advocacy. The successful candidate will be responsible for identifying key policy trends, developing advocacy strategies, and strengthening partnerships with policymakers, multilateral organizations, and civil society leaders.

The goal is to ensure that philanthropy remains a key player in international policy discussions and contributes effectively to global development efforts.

Responsibilities

The Head of Policy and Advocacy will work on multiple key areas, beginning with strategy development and implementation. This includes creating and executing WINGS’ policy and advocacy strategy, identifying relevant policy trends, developing reports and briefings, and tracking the impact of advocacy initiatives.

The individual in this role must ensure that WINGS’ advocacy efforts align with global developments and influence key decision-makers. Another crucial aspect of the role is advocacy and external engagement. The Head of Policy and Advocacy will lead strategic advocacy initiatives that strengthen the sector’s participation in major international forums such as the United Nations, GPEDC, G20, Financing for Development forums, and Finance in Common. Building relationships with policymakers, government agencies, and multilateral organizations will be essential.

The role also involves representing WINGS at high-level policy discussions, leading member delegations at key forums, and supporting capacity-building efforts for WINGS’ members in policy engagement and advocacy. Leadership and collaboration are also key responsibilities. The Head of Policy and Advocacy will manage and support the policy and advocacy team while fostering a culture that aligns with WINGS’ values. The role requires internal collaboration with other teams to integrate advocacy efforts into WINGS’ broader programs. Additionally, the position will support locally led and collaborative policy initiatives across WINGS’ diverse global network. Translating research findings and program outputs into actionable policy recommendations will be an essential function.

This is a fully remote consultant position requiring a commitment of 40 hours per week. Candidates may be based anywhere in the world

Qualifications

  • The ideal candidate will have an advanced degree in public policy, political science, international relations, international development, global economy, development finance, or a related field.
  • A minimum of seven years of relevant professional experience in philanthropy, international cooperation, or civil society is required.
  • Candidates should have a strong understanding of global policy frameworks and regulatory environments affecting philanthropy and civil society.
  • Experience in multistakeholder collaboration for development and financing for development, including blended finance, is highly desirable.
  • Prior work with development banks and multilateral organizations is an asset.
  • The role demands a proven track record in engaging high-level stakeholders, including policymakers and civil society leaders.
  • Strong skills in policy analysis, advocacy, and strategic influence at the international level are necessary.
  • The ideal candidate will have the ability to assess global policy trends and provide strategic insights, as well as excellent communication and writing skills to translate complex policy issues into compelling narratives.
  • Leadership experience in team management, performance oversight, and cross-organizational collaboration is essential.
  • Strong organizational skills, planning expertise, and budget management capabilities are also required.
  • Fluency in English is necessary, while proficiency in additional languages is an asset.
  • Candidates must be able to work both independently and collaboratively in an international setting, with a strong awareness of cultural and geographic diversity.
  • Strategic thinking, problem-solving abilities, and a commitment to WINGS’ mission and values are essential attributes.

Compensation and Benefits

The annual compensation for this position ranges from USD 63,000 to 75,000, depending on factors such as the applicant’s geographic location. Interested candidates should submit their applications via the designated online form before April 18, 2025.
