Position Overview

UNICEF is seeking a dynamic and experienced consultant for the Knowledge Management and Content Creation Consultant role, to support the Office of Innovation’s Monitoring, Evaluation, and Learning (MEL)/Knowledge Management (KM) team. The consultant will play a key role in advancing UNICEF’s innovation knowledge base by writing and editing high-quality content, organizing knowledge-sharing events, and contributing to communications efforts related to UNICEF’s innovation initiatives.

The successful candidate will work remotely under the guidance of the Knowledge Management Specialist, with the opportunity to collaborate across UNICEF’s global network. This role is central to ensuring that lessons learned from innovation projects are effectively communicated both internally and externally to influence change and drive global impact.

Key Responsibilities

  1. Writing and Editorial
    • Develop and produce key written content such as reports, knowledge products, blog posts, and thought leadership articles.
    • Tailor content for diverse audiences, including UNICEF staff, external partners, donors, and the wider global development community.
    • Develop strategic reports to highlight successes and lessons learned from innovation projects, ensuring the outputs are clear, engaging, and impactful.
    • Collaborate closely with UNICEF’s communications teams to ensure dissemination of materials across digital platforms and other channels.
  2. Webinars and Learning Events
    • Organize and host virtual learning events, webinars, and roundtables to share knowledge and best practices related to innovation and impact.
    • Coordinate logistics, collaborate with technical experts and innovation leads, and develop content for these events.
    • Ensure that key takeaways and insights from the events are documented and shared widely across UNICEF’s networks.
  3. Knowledge Management and Communications Support
    • Contribute to the development of knowledge management platforms and communication strategies.
    • Write and copyedit reports, presentations, and other communication materials.
    • Maintain platforms for internal and external knowledge sharing.
    • Provide strategic input into the development of communications and knowledge management strategies, ensuring alignment with UNICEF’s innovation goals.
  4. Additional Responsibilities
    • Conduct research and collaborate with relevant stakeholders to develop a content calendar for the MEL/KM team.
    • Ensure timely delivery of strategic write-ups, reports, and other content as outlined in the deliverables.

Deliverables

  • Develop an editorial calendar for MEL/KM activities, conducting consultations with stakeholders.
  • Write and disseminate 9 strategic reports on innovation initiatives for external audiences.
  • Create a strategic report highlighting the successes of innovation initiatives.
  • Plan and organize 5+ webinars or learning events, managing all related content and resources.
  • Support additional knowledge management and communication tasks as needed.

Qualifications and Requirements

  • Education: Master’s degree in communications, journalism, knowledge management, international development, or a related field. An additional 2 years of experience can be considered in lieu of a Master’s degree.
  • Experience: A minimum of 5 years of relevant professional experience in writing, editing, copywriting, communications, or knowledge management.
  • Skills:
    • Proven experience in producing high-quality written content for diverse audiences.
    • Strong communication and partnership-building skills.
    • Experience organizing and managing webinars and online events, particularly in a global, multinational environment.
    • Knowledge of content development and knowledge management best practices, especially for online platforms.
    • Familiarity with the international development and humanitarian sector is an asset.
    • Fluency in English is required; additional UN language skills (Arabic, Chinese, French, Russian, or Spanish) are a plus.

Modality and Payment

This is a remote-based consultancy, with no expectation of in-person work. The consultant will report to the Innovation Specialist (Knowledge Management and Analytics) as part of the MEL/KM team.

Payment will be made based on the submission of agreed deliverables. The consultant must submit a financial proposal along with their application, detailing the all-inclusive fee for the entire contract period.
