In honor of Kathleen Gaffney, a dedicated mentor and leader, in the field of energy efficiency, the Kathleen Gaffney Prize continues to recognize and support young professionals making an impact in the field.
Kathleen Gaffney was a dedicated colleague, mentor, and leader in the field of energy efficiency. She passed away in 2021, leaving behind not only a remarkable professional legacy but also a lasting impact on those she worked with and inspired. In her honor, a group of colleagues established the Kathleen Gaffney Prize to continue supporting and recognizing excellence in the field.
About the Prize
The Kathleen Gaffney Prize is awarded annually to support and recognize outstanding contributions by young professionals in energy efficiency. This year, the 2025 prize winner will receive an invitation to participate in the IEA Energy Efficiency Conference, held in Brussels on June 12–13, 2025, with all costs fully covered. This year’s prize will be awarded to a woman under 35 who has made an important contribution to advancing energy efficiency in their community.
2025 Prize Opportunity
This year, the prize will be awarded to a young professional who has contributed to advancing energy efficiency in their community. The winner will receive a fully funded invitation to the IEA Energy Efficiency Conference in Brussels on June 12–13, 2025.
Application Process
To apply, please submit the following:
- A 500-word summary outlining your contribution to the field of energy efficiency, whether through research, practice, or implementation.
- Your CV/Resume.
- A letter of recommendation from a colleague, mentor, supervisor, project partner, or peer in support of your participation.

- Priority will be given to female applicants under 35 from developing and emerging economies.
