As an authoritative advocate for the environment, UNEP works to address urgent environmental challenges and promote sustainable development across the globe.

Within UNEP, the Industry and Economy Division works to promote sustainable consumption and production patterns, efficient use of natural resources, and safe management of chemicals, contributing to global efforts towards climate change mitigation and adaptation.

This position is part of the Climate and Clean Air Coalition (CCAC) Secretariat, a partnership working at the nexus of climate change and air quality. The Coalition aims to reduce short-lived climate pollutants (SLCPs) such as methane, black carbon, and hydrofluorocarbons (HFCs), and to support climate-friendly solutions.

Key Responsibilities:

As a Programme Management Officer, your role will involve supporting the work of the CCAC Secretariat in a variety of areas, including:

  • Research & Data Collection: Conduct research on short-lived climate pollutants (SLCPs), collecting, analyzing, and presenting data to inform decision-making and strategy development.
  • Policy Support & Coordination: Provide support for the development and coordination of policies and strategies aimed at mitigating SLCPs. This includes evaluating emerging trends, providing inputs for funding proposals, and contributing to policy assessments.
  • Written Outputs: Contribute to the preparation of analytical reports, background papers, and policy briefs that communicate key findings and recommendations on SLCP mitigation efforts.
  • Support for Meetings and Conferences: Assist in organizing and managing meetings, workshops, and conferences for CCAC stakeholders. This includes preparing agenda topics, coordinating participants, and drafting background documents.
  • Outreach & Communication: Engage in outreach activities by participating in workshops, presenting on CCAC initiatives, and fostering partnerships with stakeholders across different sectors.
  • Field Missions: Participate in field missions related to climate and air quality projects, providing both logistical and technical support.
  • Budget & Reporting: Assist in managing program finances, preparing progress reports, and coordinating budget submissions to support the execution of CCAC projects.
  • Data Visualization & Reporting: Contribute to the creation of data visualizations (graphs, charts, and tables) to support data-driven decision-making and reporting on CCAC activities.

Core Competencies:

  • Professionalism: You will need a solid understanding of project management methods and techniques, particularly related to climate change and clean air. Familiarity with SLCP sources, reduction strategies, and relevant technologies is essential. You should be able to communicate effectively with stakeholders and analyze complex data to support decision-making.
  • Accountability: You will be expected to take ownership of assigned tasks, deliver results within the established timelines and budget, and comply with organizational regulations.
  • Client Orientation: Maintaining productive relationships with stakeholders is key. You should be able to identify client needs, match them with appropriate solutions, and ensure that communication flows effectively between all parties.

Required Qualifications:

  • Education: A Master’s degree in international relations, business administration, public administration, economics, environmental studies, sustainable development, or a related field. A Bachelor’s degree with two additional years of relevant experience may also be considered.
  • Work Experience: At least two years of progressively responsible experience in project or programme management. Experience in working with international partnerships, particularly in climate change or air quality initiatives, is required. Experience in data analytics or related fields is desirable.
  • Languages: Fluency in English (both written and spoken) is required. Knowledge of French or another UN official language is highly desirable.

Desirable Skills:

  • Experience in international development projects, especially those related to climate change and environmental sustainability.
  • Familiarity with partnership management in international settings (NGOs, government agencies, international organizations).
  • Experience in data analytics and business analytics tools.
