The Farmlink Project is a student-founded nonprofit organization with a mission to address food waste and food insecurity by providing efficient logistics to connect farmers with hunger-fighting charities across the United States. Summer Internship Opportunities
Farmlink’s Summer Internship Program offers students an excellent opportunity to gain hands-on experience in the nonprofit sector, specifically in food systems, sustainability, and development. We are offering internships in three areas: Food Program, Development, and Sustainability. Interns will work closely with dedicated teams and contribute to impactful projects that address key challenges in food access, sustainability, and community outreach.
Food Program Interns
The Food Program team will host 4-5 interns who will help build out Farmlink’s charitable network and engage with hunger-fighting organizations. Interns will become familiar with the charitable food system through informational sessions on topics such as food policy, food justice, and regenerative agriculture.
Key Responsibilities:
- Engage in network building by identifying and connecting with new charitable partners.
- Assist in advocacy efforts to raise awareness about food insecurity and food justice.
- Work on farmer outreach and help establish new partnerships between farmers and charities.
- Participate in creative projects focused on food justice, accessibility, and systemic change in the food system.
This is a unique opportunity for interns to gain a deep understanding of how the charitable food system works and how nonprofits collaborate to address hunger across the U.S.
Development Intern
The Development team will host one intern who will support the team’s efforts to raise funds and build partnerships with organizations that align with Farmlink’s mission. This role is ideal for someone interested in nonprofit development and fundraising strategies.
Key Responsibilities:
- Research and identify potential corporate partners and funding opportunities.
- Manage and organize data on corporate contacts using spreadsheets and databases.
- Conduct outreach by calling potential donors and partners to build relationships.
- Support Farmlink’s fundraising campaigns by contributing to research, grant writing, and prospecting efforts.
This role provides valuable experience in nonprofit development, including corporate partnership building and donor engagement.
Sustainability Interns
The Sustainability team will host two interns, each focusing on different projects related to sustainability and food systems.
- Tax Research Intern: This intern will conduct research on tax benefits available to companies that donate food and funds. The intern will compile case studies and help develop a tool to estimate the economic value of donations for potential corporate partners.
- Crop Surplus Mapping Intern: This intern will develop models to identify and forecast crop surplus trends based on historical data from the National Agricultural Statistics Service (NASS). The intern will use Geographic Information System (GIS) technology to build a simulation model and create maps that visualize surplus trends across the U.S.
These roles require a strong technical knowledge of GIS and data analysis, and they offer an exciting opportunity to work on projects that directly impact sustainability and food systems.

Eligibility
This internship is primarily designed for students pursuing an undergraduate degree, though recent graduates and graduate students are also welcome to apply. Upperclassman high school students may be considered, though acceptance is rare.
Compensation
This is a paid internship position with a commitment of 20 hours per week. Interns will be compensated at a rate of $16 per hour, across all positions in Development, Food Program, and Sustainability. The internship program spans 10 weeks, from June 2nd to August 8th.
