The African Women’s Development Fund (AWDF) is a Pan-African feminist fund that has been at the forefront of supporting women’s rights and feminist organizations across Africa for over 24 years. AWDF has awarded approximately USD 100 million to women’s rights and feminist organizations, helping to create transformative change through law and policy reforms, movement-building, and advocating for gender justice across the continent.

AWDF’s Lemlem Strategic Framework (2023-2033) focuses on resourcing, nurturing, and strengthening African women’s and feminist movements to advance gender equality for girls, women, and gender-diverse people. The fund aims to empower those best positioned to create lasting change.

Position Overview:

AWDF is seeking a Programme Assistant for its CBO/NGO Entities Cluster to provide administrative and programmatic support. The position will report to the Senior Programme Officer for CBO/NGO Entities and will help implement initiatives aimed at unlocking the agency of African women’s rights and feminist leaders, organizations, collectives, and movements. This role involves collaborating with various clusters within AWDF, following a cross-cluster operational model.

Key Responsibilities:

1. Strategy Implementation:

  • Assist in the execution of the CBO/NGO entities sub-strategy in alignment with the AWDF Strategic Framework.
  • Support the development of a culture that values collaboration, feminist principles, and values.

2. Programme Management:

  • Contribute to planning and implementing CBO/NGO priorities, initiatives, and results frameworks.
  • Assist in preparing monitoring, learning, and reporting activities related to the CBO/NGO cluster.

3. Budget Management:

  • Support the management of resources within the CBO/NGO cluster.
  • Ensure effective expenditure in line with AWDF’s financial policies.

4. Relationship Management:

  • Participate in working groups and initiatives that promote knowledge exchange and advance shared goals.
  • Support the identification of priorities and partnerships for resource allocation and support.

5. Monitoring and Learning:

  • Assist with data collation and analysis to assess AWDF’s impact on CBO/NGOs.
  • Contribute to evaluating the outcomes of funded initiatives and ensure quality learning.

6. Other Responsibilities:

  • Undertake other duties as assigned within the scope of the role.

Essential Knowledge and Experience:

  • Feminist Values: Demonstrable commitment to gender justice and social rights-based development.
  • Teamwork & Initiative: Ability to work collaboratively with a proactive and independent mindset.
  • Programme Skills: Strong organizational skills in programme administration, planning, and coordination.
  • Stakeholder Engagement: Experience in building and maintaining relationships with diverse stakeholders.
  • Financial Management: Proficient in budget monitoring and resource expenditure management.
  • Communication Skills: Strong written and verbal communication skills in English. French proficiency is a plus.
  • Analytical Skills: Strong research, analysis, and reporting abilities.
  • Deadline-Driven: Ability to work efficiently under pressure and meet tight deadlines.

Qualifications:

  • A degree in gender studies or a related discipline.
  • At least 1 year of professional experience in a similar role, particularly with feminist philanthropy.
  • Experience working with CBOs, NGOs, or feminist/women’s rights movements.
  • Strong understanding of African women’s rights issues, and familiarity with feminist organizing and advocacy.
