What is the NextGen Youth Programme?

The NextGen Youth Programme by GOAL brings together young people from around the world to deepen their understanding of global justice issues and explore the concept of Global Citizenship. The focus of the 2025 programme will be on climate change and health systems – two of the most pressing crises facing our world today.

This exciting online and in-person programme will guide participants to:

  • Understand the interconnected challenges facing our world.
  • Work with peers to create awareness-raising materials on global issues.
  • Contribute to GOAL’s public engagement activities.

When Will It Take Place?

The 2025 programme will consist of 10 sessions with a blend of online and in-person activities. The sessions will be held on the following dates:

  • Sat, May 24 (Irish-based participants in-person): 11:00 AM – 4:00 PM
  • Tue, May 27 (International participants online): 3:00 PM – 5:00 PM
  • Thu, June 5 (All participants online): 3:00 PM – 5:00 PM
  • Thu, June 12 (All participants online): 3:00 PM – 5:00 PM
  • Sat, June 20 or Sun, June 21 (Irish-based participants in-person retreat): Time and location TBC
  • Thu, June 26 (All participants online): 3:00 PM – 5:00 PM
  • Thu, July 3 (All participants online): 3:00 PM – 5:00 PM
  • Thu, July 10 (All participants online): 3:00 PM – 5:00 PM
  • Thu, July 17 (All participants online): 3:00 PM – 5:00 PM

The sessions are designed to accommodate global participants. They will be held on Thursdays at 3 PM Irish Time, which translates to 8 AM in Honduras, 2 PM in Sierra Leone, 4 PM in Zimbabwe, 5 PM in Ethiopia & Uganda.

What Will You Learn?

Over the course of the 10 sessions, participants will:

  • Develop skills in critical thinking, teamwork, intercultural communication, and project management.
  • Learn how to organize and implement public awareness campaigns.
  • Gain confidence, resilience, and the ability to speak out for positive change.

By the end of the programme, you will:

  • Understand global challenges and how they are interconnected.
  • Reflect on your role in creating solutions for local and global challenges.
  • Gain a deeper understanding of GOAL’s mission and connect with GOAL staff.

Who Are We Looking For?

To apply for the NextGen Youth Programme, you must meet the following criteria:

  • Age: Between 18 and 25 years old.
  • Location: Must be a resident of Ireland, Ethiopia, Honduras, Iraq, Sierra Leone, Syria, Turkey, Uganda, or Zimbabwe.
  • Language: Fluent in English (both written and spoken).
  • Availability: Able to commit to attending 10 sessions between May and July (sessions are held on Thursdays and Saturdays – please refer to the dates above).
  • Engagement: Be open to teamwork and engagement between sessions.
  • Understanding: Have an emerging understanding of local and global issues.
  • Passion: Show initiative and a desire to be part of positive change. This can be demonstrated through previous volunteering, event participation, workshop facilitation, creative activities, etc.
  • Artistic Skills: An interest in artistic methods of learning (e.g., drama, art, writing, music) is preferred but not mandatory.

Additionally, if you do not have access to a phone or laptop, please let GOAL know in your application, and they will try to support your participation.

How Do I Apply?

  2. Include:
    • Your CV: Keep it simple – a brief outline of your education and any voluntary or professional work.
    • 1-page cover letter addressing:
      • Why are you applying for this programme, and why do you think you are a good fit?
      • What skills do you bring to this programme, and what would you like to gain from it?
    • Record a 1-2 minute video answering the above questions.

Stipend Eligibility
