The Agroecology Fund (AEF), a global multi-donor fund dedicated to strengthening agroecology movements worldwide, is seeking a Monitoring, Evaluation, and Learning (MEL) Technical Advisor. This full-time, remote position offers an opportunity to contribute to the transformation of food systems, supporting small farmers, Indigenous Peoples, and biodiversity conservation while addressing climate change.

Since its inception in 2012, AEF has provided over $25 million in funding to grassroots organizations across more than 90 countries. The Fund is now expanding its support through regional agroecology funds in Mexico, India, East Africa, and West Africa. Operating with a rights-based and trust-based approach, AEF focuses on fostering non-colonial, reciprocal collaboration in grantmaking and MEL processes.

The Role of the MEL Technical Advisor

As a key member of the AEF team, the MEL Technical Advisor will play a crucial role in tracking the progress and impact of the Fund’s grant programs. Working closely with AEF’s MEL Assistant and reporting to a Co-Director, this position will involve:

  • Reviewing grantee reports and providing feedback.
  • Conducting monitoring calls with grantees.
  • Maintaining the Grants Database and analyzing data to inform fundraising, grantmaking, and communications. –
  • Developing thematic reports to compile results from funded initiatives.
  • Supporting the MEL activities of AEF’s regional agroecology funds.
  • Designing and facilitating learning activities, both virtual and in-person.

This position offers an opportunity to contribute to evidence-based decision-making that enhances agroecological solutions worldwide.

Qualifications and Experience

AEF is looking for a mid-career professional with:

  • A bachelor’s or master’s degree in agronomy, forestry science, or a related field.
  • At least 10 years of experience in the development sector, specifically in the Global South.
  • Five or more years of experience in monitoring and evaluation, preferably in food systems and agroecology. – Fieldwork experience in Africa, Latin America, or Asia.
  • Familiarity with agroecology movements, the philanthropic sector, and trust-based philanthropy.
  • Strong quantitative and qualitative data analysis skills.
  • Fluency in English and proficiency in French or Spanish.

Employment Terms and Application Process

This is a full-time, open-ended contract position, with the option of being an employee or consultant depending on the location of the selected candidate. The salary range is $80,000–$92,500 for U.S.-based employees, with regional-equivalent salaries applied elsewhere.
