Mo Ibrahim Academy Fellowship – Open to African Citizens
The Mo Ibrahim Academy Fellowship is a unique opportunity for early-to-mid-career professionals from any African country to spend ten months at Chatham House, working on an individual research project of their choice. This prestigious fellowship is a joint initiative with the Mo Ibrahim Foundation and provides a platform for fellows to develop their skills, expand their professional networks, and contribute to international affairs.
Fellowship Structure and Benefits
Duration and Location:
- Duration: Ten months, from October 2025 to July 2026.
- Location: Full-time at Chatham House in London, with options for hybrid working.
How the Fellowship is Structured: Fellows divide their time across three key areas:
- Personal Research Project (60%): Fellows design and execute a research project with expert guidance from Chatham House.
- Leadership Masterclass Programme (20%): Fellows participate in workshops, thematic sessions, and one-on-one coaching to develop essential leadership skills.
- Contribution to Ongoing Research (20%): Fellows engage with Chatham House’s ongoing research priorities.
Leadership Masterclass Programme
The Leadership Masterclass Programme is central to the fellowship, including:
- Intensive Induction Week: Fellows are introduced to the programme, meet their host teams, and undergo personal development coaching.
- Thematic Sessions: Fellows engage with experts on current international challenges and leadership topics.
- Leadership Skills Workshops: Focused on key aspects of leadership, such as policy impact, crisis management, and negotiation.
- Leadership Briefings: Informal sessions with global leaders from various sectors.
- Project Presentations: Fellows present updates on their research projects, honing their presentation skills.
- Personal Development Coaching: One-on-one coaching sessions to enhance self-awareness and personal growth.
- Media Training: Fellows receive training in effective interview techniques and media communication.
- Career Mentoring (Optional): Fellows are paired with mentors to guide their career development.
Remuneration and Benefits:
- Monthly Stipend: £2,565 for living expenses in London (accommodation, food, transport, etc.).
- Relocation Support: Includes travel, accommodation, visa fees, and sponsorship (if required).
- UK Immigration Health Surcharge (excluding dental/optical care and prescriptions).
- Research Expenses: Funding for fieldwork, outreach, events, and publications.
- Post-Fellowship Benefits: Access to the Academy faculty and a five-year Chatham House membership.

- African nationality.
- Experience conducting independent research, with an undergraduate or postgraduate qualification (or equivalent experience).

- Proficiency in spoken English.
