About the Luminos Fund:

The Luminos Fund is a global nonprofit organization committed to providing transformative education opportunities to the world’s most marginalized children. Our mission is to give children who are out of school a second chance at education through accelerated learning programs, helping them to catch up to grade level and reintegrate into formal education systems. To date, the Luminos Fund has helped over 377,407 children access education, particularly in regions affected by crisis, poverty, or discrimination.

With ongoing projects in Ethiopia, Ghana, Lebanon, Liberia, and The Gambia, the Luminos Fund works in partnership with community-based organizations to scale up our impactful programs. We have been recognized globally for our efforts, receiving awards such as the 2022 Klaus J. Jacobs Best Practice Prize and the WISE Award.

As part of our continued growth, we are looking for an experienced and passionate Director of Impact to lead our Impact team. This role will be key to ensuring our programs are driven by data and impact, ultimately improving educational outcomes for marginalized children across the world.

Position Overview:

The Director of Impact will be responsible for leading the Impact team, driving the development and implementation of the organization’s impact strategy, and ensuring that evidence-informed decision-making enhances program effectiveness. The ideal candidate will have expertise in impact measurement, a strong analytical background, and a passion for education.

This is a full-time position, based remotely (within a time zone of GMT-5 to GMT+3), and offers the flexibility of working from Accra, Addis Ababa, Banjul, Boston, London, or Monrovia. The role requires up to 25% travel to countries in Africa and the Middle East.

Key Responsibilities:

Impact Strategy and Leadership:

  • Lead the development and execution of Luminos Fund’s impact strategy, aligning with the teaching and learning strategy to achieve measurable educational outcomes.
  • Act as a thought leader in impact measurement and data-driven decision-making, fostering a culture of evidence-based practices within the organization.
  • Regularly communicate the impact of our work through presentations, reports, and training for internal teams and external stakeholders.
  • Collaborate with the Development team to develop proposals and secure funding for new impact-focused initiatives.

Program Development for Impact:

  • Ensure that all programs are designed with a focus on impact, using data and insights to improve program effectiveness.
  • Lead research and develop innovative solutions to expand our understanding of learning outcomes and improve teaching practices.
  • Oversee the development and implementation of impact assessments, using rigorous experimental and quasi-experimental research designs.
  • Work closely with the Teaching & Learning team to ensure that data-driven insights are integrated into curriculum development and teacher training.

Data Management and Analysis:

  • Build and maintain data systems that support effective program impact measurement, from initial design to ongoing implementation.
  • Ensure data quality, accuracy, and proper management across all teams, including providing training to staff in data collection and analysis.
  • Analyze and interpret program data to drive actionable insights, identifying trends and proposing recommendations to improve educational outcomes.
  • Report on the impact of programs to key stakeholders, effectively communicating insights through both internal and external channels.

Team Leadership and Development:

  • Recruit, manage, and mentor a diverse and high-performing Impact team, fostering a collaborative and inclusive environment.
  • Provide guidance and support to teams across the organization to help integrate evidence-informed decision-making into program design and implementation.
  • Manage the team’s budgets, ensuring efficient resource allocation and tracking of expenditures.

Financial Management:

  • Develop and monitor program budgets, ensuring alignment with organizational goals and effective use of resources.
  • Track expenses and prepare financial reports in alignment with Luminos Fund’s overall financial structure.

Required Skills and Experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree required, with a Master’s degree preferred in a quantitative field.
  • 5+ years of relevant work experience, including at least 3 years of experience leading high-performing teams in cross-cultural contexts.
  • Expertise in impact measurement, research design, and data analysis, with proficiency in statistical software (e.g., R, Python) and database management (e.g., SQL).
  • Strong background in quantitative and qualitative research methods, particularly in the context of impact evaluation.
  • Experience in user-centered system design, project management, and the ability to drive complex initiatives from start to finish.
  • Experience with impact data related to learning outcomes such as EGRA/EGMA is highly desirable.
  • A strong understanding of educational content and teaching methods (e.g., phonics, structured pedagogy) is an asset.
  • Excellent communication skills, with the ability to convey complex information to diverse stakeholders.
  • Experience collaborating with government partners, particularly in Africa, is a plus.
  • A startup mentality, with the ability to thrive in a dynamic, rapidly changing environment.

Compensation and Benefits:

  • Salary Range: $80,000 to $130,000 per year, based on experience and location.
  • Competitive compensation will be adjusted for local market conditions and cost of living.
