Job Opportunity: Finance Assistant

The Global Resilience Partnership (GRP) was established in 2014 to advance resilience in the face of escalating global challenges. GRP is currently seeking a Finance Assistant to join their Secretariat. This entry-level position is based in the Western Cape, South Africa. The Finance Assistant will be responsible for assisting in maintaining financial records, processing transactions, preparing financial reports, and providing other financial and administrative support. This role is part of the Operations and Finance Team, working closely with the Finance Manager and reporting to the Operations Director.

Main Responsibilities

  1. Financial Transactions
    • Process invoices, payments, and reimbursements in line with financial policies.
    • Prepare and verify expense claims and reimbursements.
    • Assist with bank reconciliations and cash flow monitoring.
    • Perform weekly bank reconciliations.
  2. Financial Reporting
    • Assist in preparing monthly, quarterly, and annual financial reports.
    • Maintain accurate financial records and support audit preparations.
  3. Compliance & Controls
    • Ensure adherence to financial policies and donor requirements.
    • Support forex compliance, including maintaining yearly forex limits and reporting.
  4. Other Duties
    • Assist the operations and finance team with administrative tasks.
    • Support budgeting and forecasting exercises.
    • Liaise with vendors, staff, and the finance and operations team on payments and financial queries.
    • Assist with monthly time reports, travel claims, and authorizations.

Deliverables & Key Performance Indicators (KPIs)

  • Timely and accurate processing of financial transactions.
  • Compliance with financial policies and audit requirements.
  • Accuracy in financial reports and reconciliations.
  • Effective support in budget preparation and forecasting.

Qualifications

  • 0-3 years of work experience in a similar role.
  • Bachelor’s degree in accounting or a related field, or currently studying towards or completed professional qualifications in accounting or related fields.
  • Experience with Xero Accounting Software.
  • Proficiency in Excel.
  • Detail-oriented with strong organizational skills.
  • Knowledge of Foreign Exchange Regulations in South Africa.
  • Fluency in English is required.
  • The candidate must be a national of a country eligible for Official Development Assistance (as defined by the OECD-DAC).

Contract Terms

  • Start Date: 1 April 2025
  • End Date: 31 December 2025 (9-month contract with a one-month probation period).
  • There is potential for renewal based on performance and availability of funding.
  • Full-time contractor position, 40 hours per week (with occasional overtime compensated).
  • Compensation Range: USD 1,000.00–1,200.00 per month (final rate based on qualifications).
  • The monthly rate includes compensation for using personal work equipment.
  • Location: Stellenbosch, Western Cape, South Africa (3 days per week in the office).
  • GRP offers a generous leave policy and flexible leave days.
