The Position

IISD is seeking a motivated student to work on our youth engagement program, IISD Next. IISD Next is an international award-winning program that involves youth in sustainable policy. The program includes virtual trainings on policy topics ranging from the SDGs to green economies as well as specialized materials to support youth-led organizations working in sustainability. 

Responsibilities

  • Support administrative tasks for the smooth running of IISD Next programming
  • Creation of new outreach materials for social media and other online communications under the supervision of the Youth Engagement and Water Policy Officer
  • Facilitation of online and in-person workshops
  • Support the Youth Engagement and Water Policy Officer in the creation of fundraising materials
  • Support the Experimental Lakes Area Education team with booths, presentations, and content creation
  • Other duties as assigned

Qualifications

The IISD Next assistant position is competitive, and the qualifying candidate must have the following qualifications: 

  • Current enrolment in a university or college program leading to a degree in education, communications, English, science, or a related discipline.
  • Work or volunteer experience in the field of sustainability, policy, communications, or public education.
  • Passionate about the importance of communicating about sustainability to the public.
  • Excellent public speaking abilities and a willingness to frequently deliver public presentations.
  • Knowledge of additional languages besides English is an asset. 

Must possess or be willing to obtain a valid: 

  • Valid criminal record check and vulnerable sector verification. 

Term:  The contract is for a 4-month term, from May 5 to August 29, with an opportunity for possible extension in the fall.

Compensation: CAD 706 –CAD 865 weekly, depending on experience and education.
