P4G Call for Partnerships: Climate Mitigation and Adaptation Solutions (eligible partner countries are Colombia, Ethiopia, Indonesia, Kenya, South Africa, & Vietnam)

P4G is inviting partnerships focused on climate mitigation and adaptation solutions in the key sectors of food, energy, and water. The aim is to support innovative, early-stage businesses that contribute to sustainable development goals such as poverty alleviation, gender equity, and economic growth in the following areas: climate-smart agriculture, food loss and waste, water resilience, zero-emission mobility, and renewable energy. To be eligible for this partnership, applicants must be from one of P4G’s ODA-eligible partner countries: Colombia, Ethiopia, Indonesia, Kenya, South Africa, and Vietnam.

How P4G Supports Partnerships:

P4G provides both grant funding and technical assistance to help early-stage businesses become investment-ready. This support is critical for scaling innovative solutions in climate action and achieving the broader goal of sustainable economic development.

To be considered for the next funding round, partnerships are required to submit their proposals by March 7, 2025. All submissions must be in English, and the application process is free of charge. P4G does not work with any third-party entities that charge for editorial services related to the application.

Note: The final funding decisions are made by an Independent Grants Committee.

Eligibility Criteria:

Applicants must meet all ten eligibility criteria to submit a concept note and be considered for evaluation. Detailed criteria are outlined in the Partnership Guidelines, but here is a summary of the key requirements:

  1. Partnership Commitment:
Each partnership must include at least one early-stage business and one nonprofit organization. The partnership should focus on implementing projects in P4G’s ODA-eligible partner countries (Colombia, Ethiopia, Indonesia, Kenya, South Africa, Vietnam) within the designated sub-sectors.
  2. Experience and Track Record:
Partners should have a strong understanding and demonstrated experience in the relevant country, sector, business management, financial and environmental development, and grant management.
  3. Sector and Geographic Focus:
The partnership should focus on one of the following sub-sectors:
    • Climate-smart agriculture
    • Food loss and waste
    • Water resilience
    • Zero-emission mobility
    • Renewable energy
The project must be implemented in one of P4G’s ODA-eligible partner countries.
  4. Investability:
The business should be in the seed or post-seed financing stage, with a solid business plan and a clear path to commercialization or capital raising.
  5. Enabling System:
The partnership must have a strong understanding of the policy, legal, and regulatory frameworks in the country of implementation.
  6. Additionality:
The business solution proposed must be innovative and demonstrate a significant improvement over the current state-of-the-art in the relevant industry and country.
  7. Impact:
The project should demonstrate clear and measurable climate impact, economic growth, poverty reduction, and contribute to gender equity and social development.
  8. Budget:
The partnership must include a cost-share of at least 30% of the total budget, which must be cash, not in-kind contributions. The cost-share must align with the mandatory activities and budget line items.
  9. Responsible Business Conduct:
The partnership should not engage in any activities listed in P4G’s exclusion list and must either have an existing Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) plan or a plan to develop one.
  10. Due Diligence:
Both lead institutions must meet organizational due diligence requirements as outlined by P4G.

Evaluation Criteria:

The selection process for partnerships will be based on four main evaluation criteria. Each will be scored from 0 to 10, and only partnerships with an overall score of 7 or higher will be invited to pitch their proposals and move to the full assessment stage.

  • Partnership strength: The quality of collaboration between the early-stage business and the nonprofit.
  • Innovativeness of the solution: The degree of innovation compared to the current market.
  • Impact potential: The potential to contribute positively to climate change mitigation, poverty reduction, and economic growth.
  • Feasibility: The viability of the business model and ability to scale.

Application Process:

  1. Submit the Concept Note:
Partnerships must submit their concept notes by March 7, 2025, to be considered for the upcoming funding round. The concept note should outline the partnership’s approach, goals, and expected impacts.
  2. Pitching and Full Assessment:
Successful applicants (those with a score of 7 or above) will be invited to pitch their proposals. After the pitch, a full assessment process will be conducted, and the final selection will be made.
  3. Review Resources:
Before applying, partnerships should review all resources available directly from P4G. This includes the full Partnership Guidelines and other application materials.
