Call for Visiting Fellows – Fall Term 2025

The National Centers of Competence in Research (NCCRs), a Swiss National Science Foundation (SNSF) funding scheme, invites applications for short-term Visiting Fellowships for Fall Term 2025 under the nccr – on the move project. This project focuses on migration and mobility research, connecting disciplines from social sciences, economics, and law. The fellowship aims to foster international collaboration and knowledge exchange.

Details of the Visiting Fellowships:

  • Duration: 2 to 3 months
  • Eligibility:
    • Senior Fellows (Postdoc): Must have completed doctoral training.
    • Junior Fellows (Doctoral students/Master’s degree holders): Must be enrolled in a doctoral program or possess a Master’s degree.
    • Preference is given to researchers from low or middle-income countries.
  • Support: A lump sum covering travel and living expenses (CHF 3,500/month), including travel to/from Switzerland and NCCR events.

Research Teams (Individual Projects – IP) Available for Hosting:

  1. IP40: Narratives of Crisis and Their Influence on Migration and Mobility Policies
  2. IP41: Territorial Economics and Politics of Emigration in Crisis Regions
  3. IP43: Attitudes Towards Migration and Democracy During Intertwined Crises (Note: Only Subproject 1 available)
  4. IP45: Agency of Ukrainian and Syrian Forced Migrants in Different National Contexts

Applicants should identify which project they wish to collaborate with.

Application Requirements:

  • Documents Needed:
    1. Curriculum Vitae
    2. Referee Details (two referees required)
    3. Confirmation of Master’s or PhD degree, or proof of enrollment in a doctoral program
    4. List of publications (if applicable)
    5. Motivation Letter (explaining the interest in the nccr – on the move and the selected research project)
    6. Research Plan (detailing the proposed research and collaboration within the NCCR)
  • Eligibility Requirements:
    • For Senior Fellows, a completed doctoral training is required.
    • For Junior Fellows, candidates should be in doctoral training or hold a Master’s degree.
    • Applicants should not have permanent affiliations with Swiss institutions at the time of application.

Application Procedure:

  • Deadline: 15 March 2025
  • Selection Criteria: Based on the applicant’s research plan, academic track record, and alignment with the NCCR’s agenda. Priority is given to early-career researchers and those from low/middle-income countries or underrepresented backgrounds.
  • Decision Date: Mid-June 2025, with fellowships starting in September, October, or November 2025.

Important Notes:

  • This fellowship is not a salary but covers living and travel costs.
  • A valid health insurance (e.g., European Health Insurance Card or “Schengen Insurance”) is required.
  • The fellowship is not for candidates with permanent residence in Switzerland.
