About Mighty Ally

Too many nonprofits are too small. Only one in 1,000 grows beyond a small business. But more fundraising itself can’t fix an organization’s funding.

To get funding, nonprofits must be fundable and findable. Brand first, funding second.

Mighty Ally builds nonprofit brands that maximize funding and advance social justice. Through consulting, training, and field building, we deliver our proven Fundable/Findable Framework: theory of change and strategic planning (be fundable), positioning strategy and marketing communications (be findable).

We’re a nonprofit hybrid. Our focus is on growth and early-stage leaders of social sector organizations. We’re a catalyst between doers and donors. And we have an unmatched international perspective for a purposefully small team.

Our target is to build 5,000 bold brands that advance social justice for 500 million people.

About the role

We’re growing. And while we’re an intentionally small and founder-led organization, we need expert, senior-level support to shape and guide our deep client work.

This Senior Strategist will work hand-in-hand with the co-founding partner who oversees our consulting practice for growth-stage organizations. Together, they will guide these brands using the Mighty Ally Fundable/Findable Framework.

Core responsibilities

  • Deep diving into a client’s brand to extract opportunities and insights, then make strategic recommendations both large and small.
  • Facilitating workshops with client leadership teams, providing on-the-spot input and sector-based wisdom.
  • Deploying the Mighty Ally framework and tools to craft and deliver everything from a concise theory of change to a messaging platform to a pitch deck.
  • Conducting desk research and qualitative analysis to inform brand strategy and surface up landscape-based findings.
  • Supporting client teams in implementing recommended strategies through coaching sessions.
  • Traveling to our clients to build relationships and gather first-hand perspectives.

About you

  • You’re a consummate communicator — able to skillfully and confidently lead workshops and craft a clear point of view into a compelling strategy and story.
  • You’re an insightful thinker — adept at tying together disparate threads and generating insights to build brands.
  • You’re an empathetic listener — gifted at taking in a range of opinions and inputs to craft strategic deliverables.
  • You’re a self-starter — biased towards action and pursuing solutions.
  • You thrive working within a fast-paced, high-performing team — able to juggle multiple priorities and projects in a client-driven environment.
  • You’re relational and committed to knowing our team and clients.

Experience

You have a deep understanding of the social sector and funding landscape, specifically for growth-stage nonprofits. You have a creative, comms, or brand-building background. You’ve already led deep strategic work. And ideally, you’ve managed contributors such as copywriters, marketers, fundraisers, creatives, or development professionals.

And in particular, you:

  • Have 10+ years of direct experience in a similar role.
  • Come from the Global South (Africa a plus), living within +/– two hours of East Africa Time, as that’s mostly where our clients work. So to help decolonize development, we must prioritize proximity and balance our Global North biases.
  • Are proficient in the full suite of Google products, have a high-level knowledge of design platforms like Canva, and are growing your ability to use AI tools strategically.
  • Can commit to this being a full-time role.
  • Feel on fire because “as long as poverty, injustice, and gross inequality persist in our world, none of us can truly rest.”

Alignment with our core values

Working with Mighty Ally means being part of a high-functioning team that thrives on excellence and determination. We’re a fighter — taking a stand and saying what needs to be said, no matter how tough the conversation. We’re mindful — aware of our responsibilities and deeply invested in the teams, work, and causes we champion. We have grit — getting shit done using all our means and might. And consistently deliver excellence — nothing less than quality fit for purpose.

We’ll be reviewing applications on a rolling basis — so don’t wait!
