Carbon Sequestration Fellowships 2025 – Call for Applications

The Alliance of Bioversity International and CIAT is offering Carbon Sequestration Fellowships 2025 for MSc and PhD students of all nationalities. These 4-month scientific internships are designed to advance research on improving soil organic carbon sequestration, which is essential in combating the global climate crisis.

About the Fellowship:

The fellowship focuses on enhancing carbon storage in tropical soils by improving the deep-rooting ability of tropical forage grasses and rice genotypes. The program is part of a project funded by the Bezos Earth Fund and aims to contribute to field and laboratory research on carbon sequestration.

Who Should Apply?

The fellowship is open to MSc and PhD students, and the program particularly encourages applications from:

  • Women
  • Candidates from Latin America and Africa

Selected fellows will have the opportunity to collaborate with leading scientists at the Alliance’s Palmira (Colombia) or Nairobi (Kenya) research facilities.

Key Benefits:

  • Funding: Fellows will receive USD 10,000 to 12,000 to cover living costs during the 4-month internship.
  • Research Experience: Fellows will work on generating original data for their MSc or PhD thesis.
  • Hands-on Training: The program offers mentorship and active involvement in research teams, contributing to impactful agricultural research.
  • Networking: Fellows will strengthen international agricultural research networks and contribute to tackling climate change through innovative agricultural science.

Program Details:

The fellowship is part of a project aimed at using genetic diversity to capture carbon through the development of deep-root systems in tropical soils. Fellows will:

  • Contribute to field and laboratory studies (desk-based research is discouraged).
  • Be actively engaged in the project’s research activities.

Timeline:
