The Information Controls Fellowship Program (ICFP) offers an exciting opportunity for researchers to explore and address issues of internet censorship, surveillance, and the restriction of free information flow across the globe. This prestigious fellowship supports the research and development of solutions to combat repressive digital environments and safeguard human rights and democracy.

Fellowship Details:

  • Duration: Fellowships available for 3, 6, 9, or 12 months
  • Eligibility: Open to postdoctoral, doctoral students, and experienced researchers with expertise in digital rights, censorship, or surveillance.
  • Stipend: $7,000 USD per month
  • Travel Stipend: Between $1,250 – $5,000 USD depending on fellowship length
  • Equipment Stipend: Between $1,250 – $5,000 USD depending on fellowship length
  • Location: Fellows work full-time with a supportive host organization of their choice.

  • Application Window: January 13, 2025 – February 28, 2025

Program Objectives:

The ICFP is designed to support research on how governments are limiting free access to information and how such actions threaten democratic rights. Fellowships also focus on finding and developing mitigation strategies for these challenges.

How to Apply:

  • The application process is two-staged and is accepted once a year.
  • Applicants are paired with an OTF program manager for project oversight and evaluation.
