Job Purpose
The Senior Officer, Climate Action will be the IFRC’s technical focal point for climate action, driving initiatives that enhance the work of National Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies on climate change. The role focuses on promoting climate-smart programs, local adaptation efforts, and advancing the translation of global policies into actionable practices at the national and local levels. The Senior Officer will coordinate and provide technical advice, ensuring that IFRC’s climate-related efforts contribute to the organization’s strategic goals.
Key Responsibilities:
- Technical Support & Resources:
- Provide expert advice to support climate action programming and scaling efforts.
- Map the climate-related needs and practices of National Societies and collaborate on development of climate-smart tools and guidance.
- Contribute to the design and implementation of capacity-building activities for National Societies.
- Global Positioning & Partnerships:
- Advance IFRC’s global climate action initiatives by aligning strategies with operational plans.
- Represent IFRC in key global climate forums and partnerships, advocating for climate adaptation and resilience.
- Support resource mobilization and proposal development related to climate finance.
- Coordination & Collaboration:
- Facilitate coordination within IFRC and with external partners to ensure effective climate action implementation.
- Provide guidance and input to the Climate Centre’s strategies and initiatives to ensure alignment with IFRC approaches.
- Project Planning & Financial Management:
- Ensure quality financial management, monitoring, and coordination of related projects.
- Contribute to overall planning, reporting, and budgeting efforts within the IFRC climate team.
Required Qualifications:
- Education:
- Bachelor’s degree in climate change, disaster risk reduction, international relations, or a related field.
- Master’s degree preferred.
- Experience:
- 5-7 years of experience in climate change adaptation, policy, or disaster risk reduction.
- Experience in the humanitarian or development sectors, particularly in developing countries.
- Proven expertise in building relationships with stakeholders and partners in climate-related sectors.
- Languages:
- Fluent in English (written and spoken).
- Proficiency in another IFRC official language (French, Spanish, or Arabic) is preferred.
