Call for Applications: UNESCO-Equatorial Guinea Fellowship Programme for Young Women Scientists in Africa 2025

The first edition of the UNESCO-Equatorial Guinea Fellowship Programme for Young Women Scientists in Africa is now open for applications. This initiative aims to bridge the gender gap in science and promote equal opportunities for young African women to become actively involved in life science disciplines.

Program Overview:

  • The fellowship is a collaboration between UNESCO and the Republic of Equatorial Guinea.
  • It offers two young African women scientists an annual grant of $25,000, totaling $50,000 to support their research and scientific career development.
  • The programme targets women under 45 years of age with a PhD in life sciences, conducting research at a recognized laboratory in Africa.

Eligibility Criteria:

  • Must hold African nationality and be engaged in scientific research within the life sciences.
  • Must be under 45 years of age at the time of application.
  • Must hold a PhD in life sciences.
  • Research should focus on advancing knowledge and contributing to sustainable development.
  • Applications must be submitted by African Governments or their National Commissions (self-nominations will not be accepted).

Application Process:

  1. Pre-registration: Submit pre-registration via this online link.
  2. Full Application: After pre-registration, candidates will complete an online submission form, which includes:
    • A proposal outlining an innovative research idea to be completed within one year.
    • A detailed work plan, including activities, objectives, and expected outcomes.
    • A comprehensive budget breakdown for the $25,000 grant.
    • A summary of past research and significant publications.
    • A detailed CV, including academic qualifications and research experience.
    • 1-2 recommendation letters from a thesis supervisor or peer in the research field.

Funding Disbursement:

  • $23,000 will be provided at the start of the project.
  • $2,000 will be given upon submission of the final report at the end of the fellowship.
