The UN SDG Action Campaign, hosted by UNDP and based in Bonn, Germany, inspires global and local efforts to achieve the SDGs. Collaborating with cities and local governments, the Campaign showcases innovative approaches to implementing Agenda 2030 through tools such as the SDG Local Action website, webinars, workshops, and knowledge-sharing platforms.

Role Summary

The Learning and Knowledge Generation Analyst will spearhead content creation and knowledge exchange on the role of cities and local governments in achieving the SDGs. Reporting to the Advisor for Cities and Local Governments, the Analyst will facilitate learning, generate impactful case studies, and promote strategic partnerships to advance sustainable development at the local level.

Key Responsibilities

  • Learning and Knowledge Exchange:
    • Design and conduct webinars and workshops showcasing innovative SDG practices in local governance.
    • Identify global city experiences, analyze public policies, and share technical expertise.
    • Facilitate peer-to-peer learning and support the development of the SDG Local Action community.
  • Content and Knowledge Creation:
    • Develop knowledge assets, including case studies, articles, infographics, and data visualizations.
    • Craft guidelines and policy recommendations to support local governments in areas such as urban innovation, municipal finance, governance, and public service delivery.
  • Communications:
    • Prepare communication materials in English and Spanish, including newsletters and social media content.
    • Document and disseminate success stories and innovative practices for local SDG implementation.
  • Stakeholder Engagement:
    • Support the Advisor in global events to highlight local government contributions to SDGs.
    • Build and nurture partnerships with local government networks and strategic stakeholders.
    • Coordinate procurement processes for public service projects.

Institutional Arrangement

The position will report directly to the Advisor for Cities and Local Governments, UN SDG Action Campaign.

    • Strong capacity for innovation, advocacy strategy, and relationship management.

Qualifications

  • Education:
    • Master’s degree in Political Science, Public Policy, Social Sciences, or related fields.
    • Alternatively, a bachelor’s degree plus two years of relevant experience will be considered.
  • Experience:
    • Applicants with a master’s degree require no additional experience.
    • Bachelor’s degree holders need a minimum of two years of relevant professional experience in local or regional governance.
    • Experience in innovation, capacity building, public service delivery, and partnerships in the public sector is desirable.
  • Languages:
    • Fluency in English and Spanish is mandatory.
    • Proficiency in another UN language is an asset.
