Background

Oxfam in Africa (OiA) embraces all the Oxfam stakeholders’ entities (countries, clusters, advocacy offices and affiliates) on the continent and seeks to enable and enhance impact through collaboration and integration. The Africa platform will contribute to deliver Oxfam’s impact and Influence in Africa. The plural and robust leadership team will represent the different Oxfam stakeholders in the continent. It will include the Oxfam in South Africa (OZA) Executive Director (as the only affiliate currently in the continent and the new ones will be included in due time), the Country Directors, SAF Cluster Director from the programs in Africa who will be leading on specific themes / priorities within Oxfam in Africa and the Africa Platform Senior Leadership Team (SLT). There will be collaboration with the North Africa cluster specially on the influencing work but no direct management relationship.

The Role

As a key function, the Grant and Finance Officer will drive the effective financial monitoring of the “Sahel – A Égalité” initiative, a collaborative project led by OXFAM in Africa across West Africa, including Burkina Faso, Niger, Senegal, Chad, and Oxfam France. This role is crucial in enhancing program impact by ensuring rigorous grant management, compliance with donor regulations, and efficient management of partner and grant information systems. The officer will play a pivotal role in building the financial capacity of partner organizations, enabling stronger, more sustainable program delivery. Additionally, the position will provide strategic financial insights to budget holders and program leaders, producing timely, accurate reports that meet the highest donor standards and facilitate informed decision-making.

The role reports to the OiA Sahel Programme Convention Coordinator.  

What we’re looking for

  • We are looking for a skilled professional with a strong background in financial management and experience working with institutional donors.
  • The ideal candidate will be a qualified accountant with demonstrated expertise in finance and grant management, as well as substantial experience in planning, securing, and managing funds from institutional donors.
  • Strong capacity-building skills, particularly in fundraising, donor contract management, and program development, are essential.
  • The perfect candidate will be an excellent communicator, fluent in both written and spoken French and English, with the flexibility and willingness to travel frequently within the region.
  • Additionally, knowledge of NGO emergency programs and familiarity with Oxfam’s strategic objectives and theories of change are desirable.
  • A solid understanding of gender and climate justice advocacy, and the ability to support the defense of civic space, would be advantageous. Given the need for close collaboration with teams across multiple countries, clear communication skills and the ability to effectively manage multiple priorities are vital for success.
