Key Deliverables
The consultant will produce the following outputs during the three-month assignment:
- By March 1, 2025:
- Workplan detailing key outputs and targets.
- Monthly progress report on the implementation of assigned tasks.
- By April 1, 2025:
- Monthly progress report on the implementation of tasks.
- Three promotional materials related to Data for Now events at the UN Statistical Commission.
- By May 1, 2025:
- Final report summarizing contributions and recommending communication and outreach strategies.
- Two data stories and two promotional videos completed.
Duration & Work Conditions
- Initial Contract: February 1 – May 1, 2025 (part-time).
- Potential Extension: Up to two years.
- Work Location: Home-based with regular virtual meetings.
- Travel/Commute: Not required.
Responsibilities
The consultant will lead the communications and outreach strategy for the Data for Now Initiative, which enhances countries’ capacities to produce timely, disaggregated data for sustainable development.
Tasks include:
- Creating and managing communications materials such as:
- Social media content.
- Video information briefs.
- Newsletters.
- Web and social media engagement.
- Developing data stories and promotional content.
- Supporting partnerships with stakeholders, including National Statistical Offices, international organizations, academia, and private sectors.
- Advancing outreach for SDG indicators and innovation communications.
Qualifications
Education
- Advanced degree in communication, journalism, international relations, public administration, or related field.
- Bachelor’s degree with 7 years of relevant experience may be considered in lieu of an advanced degree.
Experience
- Required:
- Minimum 5 years in progressive communications roles.
- Expertise in creating social media and video content.
- Experience with National Statistical Systems, capacity-building, and training.
- Proven track record in developing communication strategies and liaising with diverse stakeholders.
- Desirable:
- Experience writing data or impact stories.
- Familiarity with the United Nations system.
Languages
- Proficiency in English (written and spoken).
- Knowledge of additional UN languages is an asset.
