Call for Applications: Social Relevance of the Humanities (RevHum) Fellowship 2025/2026 (fully funded + stipend)
About the Program
The “Social Relevance of the Humanities” (RevHum) fellowship program, jointly developed by the Centre for Advanced Study Sofia (CAS Sofia) and the New Europe College Bucharest, seeks to amplify the practical, philosophical, and ethical dimensions of the humanities in contemporary society. Supported by the Porticus Foundation, the program challenges scholars in humanities and social sciences to explore themes relevant to technological advances and “digital modernity,” addressing critical debates and challenges of the human condition.
The initiative aims to provide scholars with opportunities to connect their research with broader contemporary relevance, making the humanities indispensable for addressing today’s global concerns.
Fellowship Format and Benefits
The RevHum fellowship offers a 5- to 10-month in-residence opportunity for post-doctoral international scholars at CAS Sofia.
Key benefits include:
- Stipend: €850/month (subject to 10% income tax).
- Accommodation: Living quarters and workspace in Sofia.
- Travel and Insurance Allowance: Up to €850.
- Research Travel Funding: €750–€1,500.
- Research Expenses: €100/month.
- Access to CAS library and electronic resources/databases.
Fellowship Duration
Candidates can apply for the following periods:
- Winter Semester: October 1, 2025 – February 28, 2026.
- Summer Semester: March 1, 2026 – July 31, 2026.
- Full Academic Year: October 1, 2025 – July 31, 2026.
Applications must include a detailed research plan justifying the chosen fellowship duration.
Eligibility Criteria
Applicants must:
- Be non-Bulgarian citizens.
- Hold a PhD in the humanities or social sciences.
- Demonstrate international research experience (participation in projects, conferences, or peer-reviewed publications).

- Detailed research proposal.
- CV with a full academic portfolio.
- For Junior Scholars (PhD obtained within 8 years):
- Two letters of recommendation (sent directly by referees).
Deadline: March 31, 2025.
Selection Criteria
The selection process will assess:
- Academic quality: Scholarly portfolio, publications, and international research engagements.
- Research proposal: Originality, significance, and potential for interdisciplinary contributions.
- Priority consideration for candidates with no prior CAS fellowships in the last five years or those applying for their first or second CAS fellowship.
Shortlisted applicants will participate in an online interview in late June 2025. Final results will be announced in July 2025 via email and at cas.bg.
