UNSSC provides programs aimed at enhancing leadership, management, sustainable development, peace, and security skills. Headquartered in Turin, Italy, with an office in Bonn, Germany, the UNSSC Knowledge Centre for Sustainable Development (KCSD) is tasked with supporting the UN system and stakeholders in implementing the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development and the Paris Agreement on Climate Change through learning, training, and knowledge management.
The KCSD collaborates with various UN and non-UN institutions to develop learning tools, platforms, and executive programs across the five dimensions of sustainable development: people, prosperity, planet, partnership, and peace.
Terms of Reference:
Under the supervision of a Learning Portfolio Manager at the UNSSC KCSD, the Associate Learning Officer will support the programs in the Resident Coordinator System, Results, and Communications Portfolio. The officer will focus primarily on results-based management and UN inter-agency and country-specific programming. The main responsibilities include:
Program Design and Coordination:
- Contribute to the design, development, coordination, and evaluation of training activities related to sustainable development, focusing on results-based management and UN country programming.
- Assist with mapping, scoping, and curriculum development, ensuring pedagogical quality, relevance, and effectiveness.
- Contribute to needs assessments and learning impact evaluations, and provide input for long-term and short-term program objectives.
- Ensure accuracy and quality in selected learning programs by reviewing materials and content.
- Collaborate with resource persons to expand and maintain a high-quality, diverse training roster.
- Coordinate program cohorts and ensure alignment of resources, faculty, and timelines.
- Participate in outreach, marketing, and communications efforts, contributing to the development of promotional materials and communications pieces.
- Draft training proposals and concept papers based on client requests or proactive research.
- Support field missions, including administrative assistance and data collection.
Program Delivery:
- Coordinate, facilitate, and deliver learning sessions and knowledge-sharing activities (e.g., workshops, online courses, webinars, and self-paced modules).
- Manage content published on online learning platforms and assist with the development and distribution of reference materials.
- Monitor specific aspects of program development and implementation.
- Provide administrative and substantive support for meetings, conferences, and other events, including preparing documents, proposing agendas, and managing logistics.
Knowledge Management and Product Development:
- Stay informed on trends, best practices, new technologies, and emerging innovations in sustainable development, training, and capacity building.
- Contribute to communities of practice and foster collaboration across teams.
- Help develop and maintain standard guides, job aids, and promotional materials on best practices and lessons learned.
Other Responsibilities:
- Perform additional related duties as assigned.
Competencies:
- Professionalism: In-depth understanding of sustainable development, the 2030 Agenda, the SDGs, results-based management, and UN inter-agency processes. Experience in program management, instructional design, and capacity building.

Required Qualifications:
Education:
- Advanced degree in political science, public policy, law, economics, or a related field.
Experience:
- At least 2 years of professional experience in UN inter-agency and/or agency-specific country programming processes (required).
- At least 2 years of experience in capacity building and/or coordination related to results-based management and country programming for UN staff (required).
- In-depth knowledge of the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development, the SDGs, and the UN development system (required).
- Proven experience in establishing and maintaining partnerships with a wide range of stakeholders, including government, international organizations, civil society, and academia (required).
- Experience in facilitating inter-agency meetings and coordinating platforms at the country level is an asset.
- Experience in instructional design and online course creation is desirable.
Language Skills:
- Excellent command of English (required). Proficiency in other UN languages is an asset.
