Human Resources Officer – United Nations Office at Nairobi (UNON)
The United Nations Office at Nairobi (UNON) serves as the UN headquarters in Africa and acts as the representative office of the Secretary-General in Kenya. UNON supports program implementation for the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP), the United Nations Human Settlements Programme (UN-Habitat), the Resident Coordination System globally, and other UN offices in Kenya, providing administrative, security, conference, and information services.
This role is located within the Human Resources Management Service (HRMS) in the Division of Administrative Services at UNON, reporting to the Chief of the Staff Benefits and Entitlement Section.
Key Responsibilities
General HR Functions
- Advising human resources assistants on staff pay, benefits, and onboarding.
- Providing guidance to managers and staff on HR-related matters.
- Supervising HR assistants on administrative transactions, personnel actions, staffing tables, and contracts.
- Maintaining HR filing systems.
- Preparing special reports and contributing to HR projects.
Entitlements Administration
- Advising on the interpretation and application of policies, regulations, and rules.
- Administering and providing guidance on salary, benefits, travel, and social security entitlements.
- Reviewing policies and recommending necessary changes.
Other Responsibilities
- Counseling staff on rights, responsibilities, and workplace challenges.
- Collecting and analyzing HR data to identify trends and support decision-making.
- Performing other assigned duties.

Education and Experience
- Education: Advanced university degree in human resources management, business/public administration, social sciences, or related fields. A first-level degree with two additional years of relevant experience is acceptable.
- Experience: At least five years of HR experience, with three years at the international level. Experience in HR data analysis and working with Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) systems is desirable.
Language Requirements
- Fluency in English is required.
- Knowledge of French, Spanish, or another UN official language is desirable.
