Overview of the PhD Programme
The PhD programme at NHH is a four-year, fully-funded programme that combines an intensive course component with research and practical work experience. The programme is designed to prepare graduates for academic positions at prestigious international institutions and for roles in knowledge-intensive institutions and firms outside of academia. Graduates from NHH have been employed by leading universities such as Harvard University, The University of Sydney’s Business School, University of Amsterdam, Tilburg University, Hanken School of Economics, as well as various Norwegian universities and business schools. Additionally, alumni have found positions in government, banking, finance, and consulting sectors.

Salary
The annual salary for a PhD Research Scholar at NHH is approximately NOK 550,000 (equivalent to EUR 46,350 or USD 50,200). The salary will be adjusted annually by a minimum of 3%. This compensation ensures a fair standard of living in Norway and is subject to Norwegian taxes and benefits, including public healthcare and pension savings.
Eligibility Requirements
Applicants should generally have completed a 5-year (3+2) study cycle, resulting in a Master of Science (MSc) in Economics and Business Administration or a comparable degree relevant to their chosen specialization (e.g., MSc in Social Sciences, Psychology, Philosophy, Mathematics, Management, or Law).
Applicants must have completed their master’s degree by the starting date of the PhD position, but not necessarily by the application deadline.

About the PhD Programme
PhD Research Scholars at NHH will be integrated into a stimulating and supportive research environment. They will work closely with faculty members and other PhD researchers and will be active participants in faculty and research seminars, as well as workshops.
NHH offers funding for research stays abroad, allowing PhD research scholars to build a broader network and strengthen their research. In addition to research, PhD scholars are expected to dedicate 25% of their time to teaching and/or research assistance responsibilities. Pedagogical training is provided as part of the position.
The PhD Research Scholars will be based at NHH in Bergen, where they will have their own office space within their department.
The programme gives preference to applicants whose research interests align with the department’s focus and available resources for supervision.
