Notwithstanding the general considerations set out in the ILO Staff Regulations, this vacancy announcement is the only authoritative document pertaining to the qualifications required for this position. The minimum required qualifications were determined in view of the specific duties and responsibilities of this position.
Language Requirements:
The specific language requirements for this position are detailed hereunder. However, external candidates applying for professional category vacancies and whose mother tongue is not one of the working languages of the Office (English, French, and Spanish) shall be required to possess a fully satisfactory working knowledge of at least one of the ILO working languages. If appointed, they will be expected to acquire a knowledge of a second working language of the Office during their initial years of service.
Introduction
The position is located within the Internal Communication and Branding Unit of the Department of Communication and Public Information (DCOMM). DCOMM works with all departments at ILO headquarters and field offices to deliver the global communication strategy and is responsible for ensuring a common approach to ILO communication. This involves creating engaging content, managing dissemination processes and platforms, as well as offering the services and training needed to ensure that ILO communication is consistent in message, look, and practice at the global, regional, and local levels.
The main role of the position is to create engaging multimedia content for internal audiences, contribute to internal communication and networking events, support communication for major organizational events, staff awareness and engagement campaigns, and provide editorial coordination and support for the ILO intranet.
The incumbent will report to the Head of the Internal Communication and Branding Unit.
Specific Duties
- Create Multimedia Content:
Produce high-quality, engaging multimedia content and innovative ways to convey important information to ILO staff, including through the intranet and other internal communication channels. - Support Staff Communication Initiatives:
Develop and promote initiatives that encourage communication and networking among staff, including through staff campaigns and surveys. - Event Promotion and Branding:
Organize and support the promotion and branding of creative and engaging staff events, such as Town Halls, staff recognition and long service awards, and information sessions (in-person and hybrid formats). - Major Organizational Events:
Support communications for major ILO events, both internal and external, working closely with the responsible departments or units and stakeholders to provide guidance on communications, branding, broadcasts, and other communications outputs. - Staff Awareness Campaigns:
Contribute to staff awareness and engagement campaigns on priority themes, such as promoting an inclusive and respectful ILO culture, the greening of the ILO, disability inclusion, and the prevention of misconduct (e.g., violence and harassment, sexual exploitation and abuse, and fraud). - Intranet Editorial Coordination:
Develop and maintain editorial guidelines for the ILO intranet, including overseeing content for the landing page, leadership pages, and secondary portals. Provide guidance and support to intranet content creators, ensuring the content is relevant and user-focused. - Content Editing and Proofreading:
Assist with editing and proofreading content in line with the Unit’s content strategy in English, French, and Spanish, and coordinate translations as needed. - Analytics and Recommendations:
Monitor and evaluate user analytics for the intranet to assess engagement and effectiveness, and provide recommendations for continuous improvement. - Other Duties:
Perform any other relevant duties as assigned.
Generic Duties
- Originate, write, and edit materials for dissemination, including brochures, posters, press kits, articles, and press releases.
- Conduct research for information projects and publications, and prepare briefing papers on meetings and activities of the organization.
- Develop automated databases and mailing lists of target audiences and provide information through various means such as press releases, interviews, features, and audiovisual productions.
- Maintain contacts with media representatives and others to promote the activities of the organization.
- Organize seminars, meetings, and discussions with media representatives and other concerned parties.
- Compile and maintain audio/video (A/V) libraries, manage production processes, and ensure quality standards.
Required Qualifications
Education:
- Advanced level university degree (Master’s or equivalent) in communications, journalism, or another relevant field.
- A first-level university degree (Bachelor’s or equivalent) in one of the above fields, with an additional two years of relevant experience, will be accepted in lieu of an advanced university degree.
Experience:
- At least five years of professional experience in public information or related fields of work.
Languages:
- Excellent command of at least two working languages, one of which must be English. Knowledge of a third working language would be an advantage.
Competencies:
In addition to the ILO core competencies, this position requires:
- Excellent writing skills.
- Experience in internal communication and staff engagement campaigns.
- Experience in intranet and website editorial coordination and project management.
- Knowledge of digital content creation tools (written and audiovisual).
- Ability to adapt messages for culturally diverse audiences.
- Good knowledge of the ILO’s mandate and its programme of activities.
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
- Experience with Sharepoint is an asset.
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively.
- Good analytical skills.
- Ability to work in a multicultural environment and demonstrate gender-sensitive and non-discriminatory attitudes.
Conditions of Employment
- Any appointment or extension of appointment is subject to ILO Staff Regulations and other relevant internal rules.
- The first contract will be issued for a 24-month period.
- A successful external candidate will be on probation for the first two years of their assignment.
- Medical Certification: The successful candidate will need to be certified by the ILO Medical Adviser as medically fit to perform the inherent requirements of the position.
