Health Care Without Harm (HCWH), a global leader in sustainable healthcare, is seeking a Climate Program Manager for Latin America to lead the implementation of its climate strategy in the region. This is a remote position that offers flexibility and the chance to play a critical role in shaping the future of healthcare and climate action in Latin America.

About Health Care Without Harm (HCWH)

HCWH is a non-governmental organization dedicated to transforming healthcare systems to be more sustainable, reduce their environmental footprint, and become leaders in the global movement for environmental health and justice. With offices across four continents and partnerships around the world, HCWH is at the forefront of sustainable healthcare advocacy and action.

Global Green and Healthy Hospitals (GGHH), a program of HCWH, is an international network of hospitals and health organizations committed to reducing their environmental impact. In Latin America, GGHH includes over 1,150 institutional members across 27,600 hospitals and health centers.

Why Latin America?

HCWH‘s climate and health initiatives have been making significant strides in Latin America, working with governments, healthcare systems, and institutions to promote climate-smart healthcare. The organization has been a key player in advocating for the health sector’s role in climate change negotiations, from the COP26 Health Programme to the WHO’s Alliance for Transformative Action on Climate and Health (ATACH).

With this growing momentum, HCWH is now looking for an experienced professional to help expand the impact of its climate and health programs in the region.

Key Responsibilities

As the Climate Program Manager for Latin America, you will have a vital role in driving HCWH’s climate and health agenda. Here are some of the key responsibilities:

  • Lead the regional climate strategy: Coordinate the implementation of HCWH’s climate strategy for Latin America, ensuring alignment with the global goals and the organization’s International Network Strategic Plan (2024-2028).
  • Policy and advocacy work: Represent HCWH in key multilateral spaces (such as the G20, UNFCCC, and WHO) and lead advocacy efforts to integrate climate considerations into health policies and strategies across the region.
  • Collaboration and partnerships: Foster collaborations with national and subnational governments, health organizations, and other stakeholders to drive climate action within the healthcare sector. You’ll also work closely with organizations like the Pan American Health Organization (PAHO).
  • Program management and leadership: Oversee key regional programs like the Health Care Climate Challenge, Race to Zero, and CARE (Community of Action for the Reduction of Emissions). You’ll manage project teams, including consultants and technical facilitators, to ensure the successful implementation of these initiatives.
  • Capacity-building: Lead the development of training programs and resources for health professionals, journalists, and media outlets in the region to advance climate and health advocacy.
  • Resource development: Produce technical recommendations, policy briefs, and other materials to support HCWH’s goals and communicate key messages to internal and external stakeholders.
  • Team coordination and reporting: Supervise a small team and coordinate with various departments to produce reports, monitor progress, and ensure the timely delivery of activities.
