About the Role
UNDP is the leading knowledge organization for sustainable development within the UN system, and our Crisis Bureau is key in shaping strategies around crisis prevention, response, and recovery. The Crisis Bureau provides strategic advice, coordinates multi-stakeholder engagement, and supports UNDP’s global response to crises.
In this role, you will enhance the visibility and digital presence of UNDP’s crisis-related work by creating engaging content, managing social media platforms, and producing creative visuals. You will be responsible for telling impactful stories about our efforts in crisis settings to key stakeholders such as governments, donors, the UN system, and the general public.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead Social Media Strategy: Design and implement a social media strategy to raise awareness of UNDP’s work in crisis contexts, targeting key audiences like donors, UN agencies, governments, and civil society.
- Content Creation: Research, write, and develop high-impact digital content—copy, graphics, videos, and infographics—for UNDP’s digital platforms (website, social media, and more).
- Performance Analysis: Track and analyze the performance of social media campaigns and website traffic, providing insights and adjusting strategies to maximize impact.
- Multimedia Production: Create visually compelling content, including infographics, videos, and presentations to communicate UNDP’s crisis interventions and results.
- Campaign Support: Develop and manage content for global and regional campaigns, particularly around key UN events and crises.
- Internal Communications: Assist in drafting internal newsletters and policy messages using platforms like Mailchimp, ensuring smooth communication within the organization.
Required Skills & Qualifications
- Education: Master’s degree in journalism, communications, digital communications, or related field. A bachelor’s degree with additional professional experience may also be considered.
- Experience: Minimum of 5 years (with master’s degree) or 7 years (with bachelor’s degree) of professional experience in producing digital communications content, including social media, video, and print materials.
- Technical Skills: Expertise in graphic design and video editing software (e.g., Adobe Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign, After Effects, Final Cut Pro).
- Social Media: Demonstrated ability to manage social media platforms (LinkedIn, Instagram, X, etc.) and engage with diverse audiences.
- Language: Fluency in English is required. Knowledge of additional languages is a plus.
- Desirable Experience: Familiarity with the UN system and understanding of human development, poverty, human rights, and international development issues.
