Role Overview
Are you passionate about the role of media in international development? Do you have experience in communications, media, and content creation? BBC Media Action is looking for a Communications Officer to support a wide range of internal and external communication activities. You’ll help raise awareness of our work, protect our reputation, and share our impact with key audiences, including donors, stakeholders, and the public.
As part of our dynamic global Communications team, you will work closely with the Head of Communications and collaborate with colleagues worldwide to amplify our message and create meaningful engagement.
Key Responsibilities
- Media Relations: Handle media inquiries and proactively work with stakeholders to communicate BBC Media Action’s messages.
- Content Creation: Write and edit newsletters, web content, and press materials to promote our work and increase brand awareness.
- Event Management: Research, plan, and execute corporate events, conferences, and public-facing activities. This includes managing guest lists, venues, and producing event materials.
- Social Media & Digital: Help manage social media channels and produce engaging content for digital platforms.
- Crisis Communications: Play a role in responding to urgent media inquiries and support crisis communication efforts when needed.
- Reporting & Evaluation: Monitor media coverage, evaluate communication efforts, and report on impact to internal stakeholders.
- Administrative Support: Assist with maintaining editorial calendars, media databases, and office communications.
Essential Skills & Experience
- Strong Writing & Communication: Native-level fluency in English, with excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Digital & Social Media Expertise: Proven ability to use social media and digital platforms effectively to promote content and engage audiences.
- Event & Stakeholder Management: Experience in organizing and managing events, guest relations, and media outreach.
- Cross-cultural Competency: Comfortable working in a global, cross-cultural environment.
- Organizational Skills: Highly organized with attention to detail and the ability to prioritize and manage multiple tasks.
Desirable Experience
- Broadcasting & Media: Knowledge of the media or broadcasting environment, especially in international or development contexts.
- International Development: Familiarity with the international development sector and its communications challenges.
Location & Eligibility
This role can be based in any of BBC Media Action’s offices across Africa or Asia, including cities like Nairobi, Delhi, Jakarta, Addis Ababa, and more. Candidates must have the legal right to work in the location of employment. Salary will be determined based on the local pay scale.
