The Health Foundation-REAL Centre is looking for Early Career Researchers for Peer Review (fully funded)

- We are looking for researchers with a PhD or three years’ experience in economics to be involved in a peer review process.
- This is an excellent learning and development opportunity for early career researchers to be part of a peer review process, and to receive training and guidance from an experienced senior academic.
- The deadline for applications is Thursday 31 October 2024.
The REAL Research Units are funded by the Health Foundation’s REAL Centre to develop an improved body of evidence that will support the long-term sustainability of the UK’s health and social care systems.
The seven-year programme is split into two phases, beginning with a discovery and co-creation phase for the units to scope their research questions (phase 1). A stage gate review at the end of phase 1 is a formal process to assess the research units’ readiness to progress to phase 2 and we therefore want to assess the quality of the work completed in phase 1.
As part of this stage gate review, the units will be submitting pathfinder documents – broad examinations of what is known, the gaps in knowledge and literature, and the opportunities and challenges.
Who we are looking for
We are looking for early career researchers with expertise in workforce, social care, technology and automation, incentives and market dynamics, modelling, or inequality and unmet needs.
Candidates should have:
- A PhD or three years’ experience in economics research.
- Demonstrated expertise in applied economics, policy evaluation or a relevant sub-field.
- Experience conducting research that informs UK government policy.
- Strong quantitative skills, such as econometric analysis, data interpretation and model building.
- The ability to critically assess complex economic research and translate findings into policy-relevant insights.
- Excellent writing skills to effectively present research findings to both academic and policy audiences
What the role will involve
The REAL Research Units will submit their pathfinders at the end February 2025, after which the pathfinders will be made available to reviewers.
Each pathfinder will be approximately 10–15 pages in length. Reviewers will review a minimum of one pathfinder each.
Completed reviews need to be returned by Thursday 13 March 2025.
