Apply for the Prestigious Machel-Mandela Internship 2025 at the Brenthurst Foundation

The Brenthurst Foundation is now accepting applications for its Machel-Mandela Internship Programme, an exciting opportunity for young graduates to gain experience in one of Africa’s leading think tanks. This prestigious internship, named in honour of Nelson Mandela and Graça Machel, provides a platform for graduates to engage in impactful work related to African development, policy, and economic growth.
Internship Overview
The selected intern will join the Brenthurst Foundation for a full-time position of at least six months, starting no later than 1 February 2025. The internship is based at the Foundation’s headquarters in Parktown, Johannesburg, though some projects may involve foreign travel. Interns will assist the Foundation’s staff in various activities, including event coordination, writing policy papers, op-eds, and other think tank-related tasks.
The position offers an all-inclusive monthly stipend, with accommodation provided if required (according to Foundation policy). Additional work-related expenses may be covered upon agreement with the Foundation.
Eligibility Requirements
Candidates must meet the following criteria:
- The intern may be from South Africa or farther afield
- Be under 30 years of age
- Hold a Master’s degree
- Have excellent spoken and written English (additional African or other languages are an asset)
- Possess strong communication skills
- Be enthusiastic, reliable, and self-driven, requiring minimal supervision
- Demonstrate an ability to meet deadlines while paying attention to detail
- Be proficient in basic IT skills
- Copy-editing and proof-reading skills are an advantage
- Have a passion for Africa and its economic development, with knowledge of African politics and economics
