Calling for Youth Application for African Regional Participation in Beijing+30 Reviews

As we approach the 30th anniversary of the Beijing Declaration and Platform for Action (BDPfA), young leaders across Africa have a vital role to play in advancing gender equality. Since its inception, the BDPfA has been a cornerstone in global efforts to achieve gender equality, and its relevance endures, especially as youth continue to face significant gender-related challenges.

However, despite the importance of youth engagement in this process, many young people encounter barriers to participating meaningfully in decision-making spaces. To bridge this gap, a series of workshops are being organized to equip youth with the knowledge and skills necessary to engage effectively in the BDPfA regional reviews. These workshops will not only deepen participants’ understanding of this global framework but also empower them to apply it within their local and regional contexts.

What to Expect

Youth leaders will have the opportunity to engage in two key phases:

  1. Virtual Workshops: These sessions will ensure broad youth participation in preparation for the Beijing+30 (B+30) Africa Regional Review. Participants will develop their advocacy skills, learn about the BDPfA, and explore how they can promote gender equality in their communities.
  2. In-Person Consultation: Selected participants will join an in-person meeting, where they will work collaboratively to draft a Youth Africa Position on gender equality, contributing directly to the regional review process.

Application Process

FEMNET, in partnership with the African Union CommissionUNFPAUNDPUNECA, and UN Women, is calling on young Africans to apply for participation in the Beijing+30 Africa Regional Review. By applying for the in-person meeting, participants confirm their availability for both virtual consultations and the in-person event.

Accessibility and Submission Options

To ensure inclusive participation, applicants can submit their contributions in any format that best suits their needs. Whether through text, audio, or video, young people are encouraged to express their ideas in the way that feels most comfortable. This option is voluntary and available through the file upload feature in the application form.
