Location: Lusaka or Remote (in East or Southern Africa) with extensive travel
Closing date: 28 Sep 2024
Background
Akros is a pioneering organization dedicated to establishing data-driven systems that enhance the health and wellbeing of disadvantaged communities. With extensive on-the-ground knowledge and a track record of delivering sustainable solutions in developing regions, Akros has been at the forefront of health systems strengthening.
The organization is currently supporting a program funded by the Mastercard Foundation, in partnership with the Africa CDC, to increase COVID-19 vaccine uptake in Africa. As part of this initiative, titled “Saving Lives and Livelihoods” (SLL), Akros is tasked with strengthening vaccine safety surveillance systems across Eastern and Southern Africa.
In Phase 1 of the program, Akros successfully developed a regional framework and data system for continental data collection and visualization using DHIS2, alongside an API that connects member states’ Vigiflow interfaces with the DHIS2 instance. As the project enters Phase 2, Akros seeks a Program Coordinator to work closely with the regional framework lead to manage system change requests and to lead the country-level training and roll-out of this platform.
Key Responsibilities:
- Lead the implementation and refinement of the AEFI and AESI regional reporting framework and platform, ensuring its alignment with the strategic objectives of Phase 2.
- Oversee the review of system functionality and indicators, coordinating necessary adjustments based on feedback from key stakeholders.
- Manage the training on the use of the system, including conducting workshops in-country and facilitating continental training sessions.
- Ensure smooth onboarding of member states to the platform, with a focus on those with finalized data-sharing agreements.
- Implement ongoing system monitoring and follow-ups, including in-country visits, to provide supervision and support.
- Oversee the training of Africa CDC staff on system maintenance to ensure the sustainability of the platform beyond the project duration.
- Coordinate with relevant stakeholders, including regional and continental partners, to ensure the effective adoption and use of the platform.
Minimum Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree (required) or Master’s degree (highly preferred) in health informatics, public health, epidemiology, or a related field.
- At least 8 years of experience managing public health or data systems projects, preferably in the East or Southern Africa region.
- Proven track record of leading multi-country projects with complex technical requirements.
- Experience with DHIS2 is a must and API development and integration highly preferred.
- Strong technical writing, quantitative analysis, and problem-solving skills.
- Demonstrated ability to engage with high-level stakeholders and represent the organization in regional and international forums.
- Excellent computer skills, including fluency in Excel, Word, PowerPoint, and project management software.
- Culturally adaptable and sensitive, with strong communication skills in English; additional language skills in French, Swahili, or Amharic are a plus.
- COVID-19 vaccination is required, or a valid medical exemption must be provided before commencing work.
