About the role – what will you do?
We are seeking a Policy Officer to join Pathways International’s powerful global team.
This is an exciting opportunity to contribute to Pathways International’s global strategy on pathways to protection and community sponsorship by working closely with the Director of Europe and his team. In Europe, we are collaborating with leaders and innovators from across sectors (government, civil society, private sector, etc.) to reform the system of safe and legal routes. Key countries in the portfolio are Germany, Poland, Italy, and Spain. We are also advancing the delivery of several European projects on community sponsorship and skill-based pathways funded by the Asylum, Migration and Integration Fund (AMIF).
The Director of Europe and his team are looking for a collaborative team member, a skilled analyst, and an exceptional and fast drafting pen. The successful candidate will contribute to the wider portfolio of the Director of Europe, supporting broader strategies on pathways to protection in key countries, conducting policy research and drafting, and assisting with the delivery of specific thematic and country-oriented projects, including one AMIF project focused on strategies to grow community sponsorship in Italy, Ireland, and Germany.
The role also involves organizing and supporting the execution of meetings, events, and speaking engagements. In addition, the incumbent will support the development work of Pathways International, collaborating closely with the Leadership Team to harness the support of donors for the advancement of our global reach and impact.
Responsibilities:
- Writing and analysis: Develop and draft reports, policy documents, grant proposals, and other written products in fields including community sponsorship, complementary pathways, and resettlement.
- Briefing: Prepare briefings and other documents to support the Director of Europe. Offer communication support, encompassing the drafting and editing of confidential correspondence and emails.
- Meeting and event organization: Collaborate with colleagues to prepare agendas, schedule and organize meetings with stakeholders, and record and distribute minutes. Communicate with meeting and event participants in a professional and timely manner.
- Partnership support: Maintain communications with key Pathways International partners, including in government, the private sector, and other NGOs, to advance common goals, including meeting planning and collaborative efforts.
- Project management: Work with team members to support delivery of special projects (incl. AMIF-projects) around community sponsorship, resettlement, and complementary pathways, including the development of resources, materials, and tools to share knowledge and advance programmatic goals.
- Knowledge management: Read, analyze, brief on, and organize core reports and studies, as well as data collected by external stakeholders, related to Pathways International’s areas of focus.
- Development support: Assist in development efforts by collaborating with the Leadership Team to engage donors and draft fundraising materials, including grant proposals.
About you – who are we looking for?
You should be a highly organized and self-motivated person who is a skilled analyst and writer excelling in drafting top-quality content on complex subjects with keen attention to detail.
You should thrive in a fast-paced environment and demonstrate an outstanding ability to organize and prioritize, while consistently displaying professionalism, discretion, tact, and responsibility.
You should demonstrate the ability to work in a constantly evolving portfolio across different countries and topics.
- You have a Bachelor’s degree or equivalent in a relevant field (e.g. public policy, public affairs, political science, international development).
- You have at least 3 years of relevant work experience, with demonstrated emphasis on project management and policy development.
- You have a proven understanding of one or more relevant fields, which may include: forced displacement, refugee protection, global migration, international diplomacy.
- You have significant expertise in drafting high-quality strategic briefings and other written materials for senior stakeholders.
- You have excellent written and verbal communication skills in English. Proficiency in other languages, particularly German, is an asset.
- You have strong organizational skills and can facilitate the coordination of meetings, events, and projects.
- You have excellent interpersonal skills and have experience collaborating with people from different backgrounds, countries, cultures, and languages.
- You can prepare graphically appealing PowerPoint and Word documents and you are comfortable using Excel, Zoom, MS Teams, and SharePoint.

This is a remote work position based in Europe.
