Call for Interns: Freedom of Expression Centre for Internet and Society (CIS) Internship Program

The Centre for Internet and Society (CIS) is excited to announce a call for internship with the Freedom of Expression team. We welcome applications from individuals from law and policy backgrounds.

About CIS

The Centre for Internet and Society (CIS) is a non-profit organisation that undertakes interdisciplinary research on internet and digital technologies from policy and academic perspectives. The research at CIS explores policy implications of the reconfiguration of social processes through the internet and digital media technologies (and vice versa). The research clusters at CIS include freedom of speech and expression, privacy, labour and social justice, internet infrastructures, access to knowledge, digital cultures, and geopolitics. About the internship

Currently, we are looking for an intern interested in working with the Freedom of Expression team. This internship will run for a period of one month between August and September 2024. Some key requirements are as follows:

  • Interest in analysing policies of Internet Service Providers (ISPs) and how they affect free speech.
  • Attention to detail and good communication skills.
  • Comfortable using Google Docs and Sheets.

Interested applicants are required to send in (a) a CV, (b) two writing samples or other output forms, and (c) a brief note indicating your relevant background and interest. Applications should be sent to [email protected] by August 5th 2024.

Applications are strongly encouraged from individuals belonging to historically marginalised communities, including caste-oppressed communities, women, LGBTQIA+ people, and people with a disability/disabilities. We strongly value the applicant’s commitment to social justice and meaningful change.

Remuneration

Interns receive a stipend of INR 15,000 per month.

Payments will only be to bank accounts in India.

Location

CIS has transitioned into a ‘remote-first’ workplace, and we expect work-from-home protocols (with the option to work out of CIS’s Bengaluru office available) to be in place for the foreseeable future.
