Scope of Work (SoW): Research Consultant for TFGBV, Afghanistan
OVERVIEW OF ROLE: The Research Consultant for TFGBV will lead research (including desk research, network analysis, community surveys, and key informant interviews) and report writing, that aims to better understand and analyze the risks and threats that Afghan women civil society members and journalists living in Afghanistan and in diaspora/expat communities face, in regard to technology-facilitated gender-based violence (i.e. online violence, harassment, threats, extortion, etc.). The Consultant will work under the supervision of Internews’ Internet Freedom & Resilience team with support from the Global Impact & Learning team.
NOTE: This consultant is not required to speak Dari and Pashto, as an interpreter will be provided if needed.
TIMELINE: Contract will run from July – November 2024 (5 months)
DELIVERABLES: The Consultant will be required to deliver the following items over the course of the contract:
1. Develop a research design and methodology based on ethical/security considerations:
a. Have initial discussions with the project team or stakeholders, and conduct a literature review on TFGBV in Afghanistan
b. Write an inception report that includes: a literature review, refined research questions, and research design that explains sample choice and sampling; what data collection methods and methods of analysis were chosen to answer the research questions; ethical considerations/limitations; and a first set of interview/survey questions if applicable.
2. Conduct research and analysis, remotely:
a. Conduct desk review of existing materials related to the topic (in English)
b. Quantitative survey with 30+ community members
c. Qualitative semi-structured interviews with 10-15+ women journalists/human rights activists in both home country and in exile
d. Qualitative semi-structured interviews with key experts:
3. Draft a report and present research:
a. Draft report in a clear, concise, and structured manner (30 pages max).
b. Present research to stakeholder group (1 hour).
